Dear Bob and Brad. You may not believe this, but about 2 weeks ago I started walking exactly the way you described. What an intuition! I'm 87 and I can now easily 2 miles. Thank for the video.

I'm 35 and officially learned how to walk . I'm 6'6 and from NYC so I grew up walking fast and taking long strides . The tips on shortening my stride and planting my heel and front foot evenly changed the game

Wow, I spent 11 years in a marching band that taught "heel to toe" religiously. But, this correct way, which undoes decades of muscle memory, looks very legit when one understands the mechanics behind plantar fasciitis.

WOW does this work! I do maintenance in a large facility and log over 20, 000 steps in a 5-hour shift. Heel pain was crushing me. Over the last week, the stretches and the walking with a shorter stride and paying attention to how my foot strikes the ground is making a big difference.

At 51, I started to correct my walking after a lot of Achilles pain. It still feels so odd walking on the mid sole, but it is definitely helping with the Achilles.

Me: Hmm...I should probably teach myself to walk properly again after these ankle and shin splint issues.

Thank you guys for putting this out for free. Truly grateful for the knowledge you're imparting. I've always had a feeling my plantar fasciitis was a result of how I was walking. Getting more information on the mechanics of walking has me excited to try it out. Thank you for not being like my last Podiatrist and only recommending that I buy a $300 pair of inserts and telling me that there was nothing else I can do.

I’m actually glad you mentioned fore-foot walking, because I do that a lot when walking down hill. And I think that’s what’s been causing it to flair up

Best way I explain this to people is try walking or running barefoot and hard surfaces. You'll naturally land more evenly and won't strike heel first.

Its been a day since I started walking in a slight marching motion, and I noticed right away how much the pain in my hips, back, and knees feel a little bit better.

Thank you so much Doctor's!

For consideration: better than leaning forward, keep--like they said--most of the stride behind you, as in skating. Keep pelvis, ribcage and head vertically aligned, and think about generating propulsion, as in skating, with the glutes and posterior leg muscles, while letting the other leg swing forward naturally. Then the front legs lands at closer to a vertical angle which allows for a better weight distribution in the footstrike.

I somehow became a forefoot walker and didn't realize it until metatarsal pain became intense. I recall being a heel striker in youth. I tried to fix it through metatarsal padding in slippers and inserts ...
I've started to concentrate on trying to get my heel to strike at all, good you mentioned this at the end, guess I'm a rarity lol
I will try to focus on more even placement now.
I did lose almost 200 lbs, that might have played into it a bit.
I did buy running shoes, I am flat footed 10.5 5E, 4E running shoes have a soft enough upper that I don't get squished toes. I was also wearing a size too big for a while.
I used the Dr schols assessment thing you stand on to get accurate enough measurements of my feet, chose shoe size accordingly. It also shown I stand primarily on 70%+ on the balls of my feet as well. (It also suggested their strongest insert).
Working with this knowledge, I've been trying to consciously shift my standing weight more to my heels as well.
I was having a ton of foot and leg issues, starting to see progress. IT band tightness loosening, calf pain reducing, metatarsal pain mostly gone, plantar issues mostly gone, still a lot of tightness, but less constant pain, discomfort, easier to walk and stand longer.
Thank you for the video, I will make sure I don't overcorrect to too much heel in everything.
I was starting to think this was just life after 40, everyone says you hurt more, but I couldn't stand or walk some days, now I have more hope for a less painful future.
