ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Walking should feel natural and relaxed. You should feel symmetrical and balanced. You should not be twisting, turning, limping, or hunching while walking. You should feel your butt, hamstrings, and calf muscles working when you walk. If you feel like your neck and shoulders hurt after walking, you have some work to do! Walking properly for long distances is good for your mind and body. Remember that human beings are designed / have evolved to walk long distances on a regular basis!

I’m an American that just came back from Italy and I noticed how active and fit everyone is because they walk and bike everywhere! Definitely changed my perspective of just going outside more!

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I'm a caregiver for mine right now and even though each day it can be hard, I remain grateful for this time I have with her.

You made me laugh and cry all at once with this wonderful video! God rest your parents' souls, I'm so very sorry for your losses. Will be praying for you. Once I can use my shoulders, hips, and knees normally again (and work), I will donate to this cause. I am asymmetrical as hell right now. Thank you!

I love walking and walk everywhere. To work, to the shops, or just for leisure. It's me time, and helps me detox. I highly recommend it!

Ever since nuking a hip flexor, I’ve been binge watching your videos. I literally had to relearn and how to break down walking to not cause more pain. The timing of this video is PERFECT. Thank you for your channel!

Ironically I have been hoping that you’d post a video on walking correctly and exercises that can help achieve this. I’m 62 years old and since the pandemic my physical health/fitness has declined significantly. I had debilitating lumbar back pain that has been coming and going since 2020. I live in constant fear of its return and have become increasingly sedentary because of it. Now I’m having issues with my knees. I’m in PT for right knee pain and on my first visit my PT manipulated both knees and now when I walk my left knee constantly clicks. I am so discouraged. I found your channel and have been watching and implementing your exercises religiously and for the first time in years am finding myself feeling stronger physically. I have scoliosis and walk hunched and I’ve recently noticed my gait seems off. I know I’m subconsciously trying to protect my back and knees by taking short and erratic steps. I’m looking forward to your upcoming videos and will definitely start the exercises on today’s video! While I can’t join the walk for your beautiful charity I will donate to them. They are truly unsung heroes. I am sorry for the loss of your father. And thank you Matt for all of your work and support to those of us who’ve lost hope along the way.

I used to walk a lot but after years of health problems and weight loss I feel it is harder and harder to walk as my psoas/groin gets painful very quickly. I follow both foot pain fix and back pain fix programs and it helps a lot, but eventualy there is always one day when I walk too much and pain comes back, so I'll be glad if a video addresses this problem

This channel always feels so wholesome and welcoming to everyone wether you do sports or are starting from absolute couch potato, and it's so interesting to watch on top of it all! Been doing the Human Squat ever since I saw it here and in consequence I started doing more stretching exercises and adding them to my workout routines so I can take control of my body. Thanks Matt!

Its like you knew I needed this video Matt, thank you... I've noticed that when I walk, I still walk as if I'm in chronic pain because my body has been so used to it for the last 2 and a bit years. I never thought I would ever be pain free again, but now I am and it's great relearning things all over again

I believe walking is the one thing most of us are capable of doing our entire lives and I try to walk 2.5 miles daily. I would add the importance of walking on flat as well as uphill and downhill terrain, for it strengthens more muscles in the legs and posterior. Short burst of running while walking is also a great way of elevating the heart rate and reducing blood pressure. Great video and cause❤

Love the comparison to boxing gloves, pretty dang close and accurate comparison. Walking is powerful. It helps me holistically by putting me in a better mental space, getting some healthy movement, and soaking up some sun.

Being retired I try to walk most days early in the morning, and every Wednesday I walk with a local walking group, and do stretches and some dynamic excercise and lift some weights and feel great.

I needed a few laughs today, and this video provided me with some! Love your sense of humor, Matt, especially about remembering to walk with one's eyes open and wearing thick cumbersome shoes is the same as trying to type with boxing gloves on! My condolences for the loss of your mom, Matt! Was sad to hear about this. Raising money by walking for the Slo Co. Hospice is a very loving thing to do! Thanks, Matt, for all you do for your patrons here on your channel!

I've actually started completely changing how I walk to correct my posture and allow my feet to heal. I now avoid walking with a heel strike. Also I have been spending as much time as possible without shoes..
