You need experienced pilots to be kamikaze's, you can't rely on an amateur to hit anything.

The point is at the point US fleet defense is so effective due to combination of air supirority and radar control AA that any attack by air is literally sucidal (something like 80-90% death rate before reaching target with convensional attack)

So they embrace sucidal part when it is more effective to train and get throught defence layers.

The pressure on pilots to agree to be Kamikaze pilots was extreme. If you refused you would be severely punished if not executed and the threats wern't just against you; your family would be punished also, severely! Many Kamikaze pilots thought the whole thing was absurd but felt they had no choice.

Also remember that Japan didn’t have much of any pilots left at this point—and many of them have been variously coerced, socially, culturally, etc. They also been fed various horror stories about how Americans treat POWs… not to say Americans were angels, but they weren’t exactly putting POWs on death marches…

When you believe in an afterlife, you can do some crazy things to try and get there. So think about it. You are revered for your skill and mission, your family honored for your sacrifice, and you will have a spot in the afterlife. It would make sense why some were willing to do this.

I respect you liking history but the title is very manipulative, way too long and had zero idea it was a reaction going into it, try to shorten the title and add reaction to it I could see the original poster being mad about the title

i heard that the reason that they used the kamikaze strat is because the anti-air capabilities of the US was really effective, and going for a traditional bombing run would actually cost relatively the same amount of pilots and planes for less damage than the kamikaze runs.
7:20 for this part, i think they knew that doing it the normal way would end up in their deaths anyways, so why not go with a bang?
10:11 once again, they did have regular bombing runs, but that wasn't as effective as kamikazee-ing, as even if they do get shot, they can still deal damage to the ship when they crash into it, with the same power as a regular payload with the extra "explodyness" of the plane crashing. so in terms of men, they can lose the same amount of men as the bombing run or the kamikaze runs, but the kamikaze runs would do more damage.

The moral dillemma is there, but technically you can lose less men when you use kamikaze runs.
