My grandpa was a Kamikaze. He was 16, and was recruited 1 week before the war ended. He got training, but before he went on a mission, the war had ended. He then lived a happy life blah blah blah. He told my mother that he had no idea why he had thought to die for the country, and sincerely regretted it. He did in 2012.

The tradition of death instead of defeat, capture, and shame was deeply entrenched in Japanese military culture; one of the primary values in the samurai life and the Bushido code was loyalty and honor until death

1. bunker hill was not destroyed, heavily damaged, yes but not destroyed, it was later repaired in pearl harbor

2. the japanese soldiers were enthusiastic because they were honored by the emperor and given special awards to their families, the feelings is subjective but not entirely true

The emperor was like a living god for them. It was like a religion. Being a kamikaze for them was like a Christian sacrificing himself during the Crusades or a jihadist suicide bombing. So it makes sense to me why they did what they did.

They taught to do that, and also got some drugs before flight. Later models of kamikaze planes removed landing gear
There are also human guided suicidal rocket bomb and human torpedo too. Imperial Japan was crazy at that time

“The fact is nobody was willing to die. I can testify it firmly. Who would be willing? Who would smile and commit suicide?”

—Kenichiro Oonuki, former IJN pilot

Fun Fact: some of Essex-class Carriers literally survived from Kamikazes, because their deck armor is a bit thicker than their predecessor, the Yorktown-class and no, kamikaze pilots dont have depression instead they were brainwashed since they were desperate
