Imagine how confused the allies would be on the first kamikaze attack. They were just dogfighting some enemies and suddenly the enemies just went straight down

Emporer: what will you do now?

I (from USA) was living in Japan and visiting Kyoto with my (Japanese) wife and British boss. We got in a taxi and the driver was a kamikaze pilot who never took off. He sat in his plane on the runway and eventually they told them to move the planes back. His description of all that was so powerful. The war ended that day. He was really cool and I'm so glad we met him.

Imagine your own parents, family members and best friends being so brainwashed to want you to die and then shame you if you survive.

Maybe I just don't get the point of a kamikaze pilot. But wouldn't it make more efficient sense if they just put an ejector seat and so that they can eject themselves let the plane crash into their Target and then they live to do it again?

I was stationed in Japan from 1966 to 1969 and met a Kamikazi pilot. He was injured on takeoff and was hospitalized until the war ended. He said he was ashamed at first for not completing his mission. However, later he realized it was a futile attempt by the military at the time.

My grandfather was a kamikaze pilot and was recruited 1 week before the war ended at the age of 16 years old. He got no kills, was willing to die for his country and survived. He never went on any missions and only received training. He said he didn’t know what he was thinking and shortly died of natural causes after I was born. He was an epic man.

Growing up I lived by a Japanese WW2 soldier, he was super sweet and made amazing tea, I talked with him quite a bit about the war, he talked a lot about how he wished he would have died with the rest of his squad not because he was depressed but because it was the honorable thing to do and because he'd be doing their duty
