I don't remember the last time I got into a political debate with anyone, in fact I don't remember the last time I ever disagreed with anyone over their or my political opinions. Pretty much everyone agrees, Labour & the Tories are the same party now, Trans & Muslim rights come before white British rights, Sadiq Khan is killing London and we are fucked no matter who we vote for since the main parties are actively blocking the creation of a true right wing alternative to their communism agenda. Reform was supposed to be our alternative and then they went and fired people for having opinions that didn't exactly align with the state narrative. At this point the only thing that might save us is a full on civil uprising.

I worked in a management role in three local authorities for over 30 years. I can confirm that it has become commonplace for staff to leave with some kind of significant lumpsum payment, typically redundancy or pension related, and then return to the same job the next day. This is usually under the guise of a "temporary" agency worker or as "self employed"
I worked with such a "temp" for ten years at one stage.
If you think that's bad, there is also the phenomenon of non-disclosure payment agreements using tax payer money. Where a council might get into legal trouble or risk reputational damage as a result of legal action by employee or member of the public, it often resorts to paying them off, accompanied by a legal agreement forcing them to shut-up.
I can't give too much away, because of the nature of these agreements, but I have known two staff to pay their mortgages off with such awards. Also a member of the public to be given an amount counted in millions to "avoid reputational damage".
The secret nature of this process is obviously open to corruption and abuse
