Most of the interviewees managed to communicate more than the words they spoke.

Basically only 2-3 out of 92 people speaking their mind is a pretty sad number. Really shows you the current state of complete fear and repression. Thanks for being brave @1420

As a citizen of an ex-communist country I'm having lots of flashbacks. I remember as a kid I heard a joke about our president and as kids do, started repeating it. When my parents heard the joke they went pale.

"It's a strange symbol to use for a peacekeeping operation."
I'm speechless.

Pains my heart to see how most of these young people feel too vulnerable to speak honestly, and yet they are mostly so brave and manage to convey how they feel

I think it's simple: "запад", pronounced "Zapad" and it means "west". Some symbol to mark direction of army. And it used to identify friend or foe. "V" is for "восток" (vostok) which means "east"

Most claim to be apolitical, which is a clear sign that they’re afraid to speak freely.

2:45 I appreciate the guy who said that he doesn't like the symbol and he is trying to avoid it.
The same for the last guy.

Crazy to live in a nation which is not allowed to speak of or have an opinion about even the most influential aspects of its own nation. The symbol has become the closest thing to a Swastika since the second world war.

These conversations really resemble the ones that happen when a foreigner asks fellow citizens about mafia. Greetings from southern italy.

The young English speaking Russian YouTubers I've been watching for the last couple of years have all left Russia, mostly to go to Georgia. Please ask people if they know how many young Russians are leaving and what they think about that.

If anyone is interesting I can tell you about how I would answer as a Swede in Sweden.
In our media they say they think it is marking the region it comes from and that it is Russian. Since Russia invaded Ukraine we have seen the letter Z and V very much. Our media also think it didn't mean anything special to the members of the public before the invasion. But now it has been a big thing for people who supports Russia and they want's to use it as a symbol for victory.

But in the west we look at it like, and compare it with the nazi-symbol from WW2. That's because for us Russia is doing exactly what Germany did (invade other country/countries).

I live in Romania, i was 18 when we axed the dictator so i had an idea at that time how dangerous is to speak in public about certain things, the difference is that this was more than 30 years ago and we didn't have any kind of media or sources of information. I kinda understand the fear and their choice of going along with this situation, but that comes with a price, you sell your soul just to be left alone and be submissive, in line, like a sheep. Sooner or later they will find the truth, that their country killed innocent civilians, that they were part of this one way or the other.
