By the way, the "holodomor" did not just occur in Ukraine. In southern russia and kazakhstan around one third of the entire population died. The actions of the soviet union did not just harm ukraine but the entire country. My great grandparents know what they talk about

People who aren't in Ukraine really need this type of "person on the street" perspective. We see the politicians and reporters talking, but these are the people we want to hear from!

Hello, russian here. How can I be blamed for this war? It's the same as blaming all americans for every war their government started. No one asks citizens in any country if a state should start a war. I was literally sleeping when all of this started. And I'm not going to throw away my life protesting, because I have responsibilities to people close to me to provide a stable living. Hating me is only going to cause a negative reaction in me. That's an unnecessary hatred negative feedback loop. But here we are. Oh well.

Olga is a very good interviewer in that she lets the people she's talking to speak for as long as they need an express themselves fully without interrupting even once. Far too often you see amateur YouTubers and even professional journalists cut in, ask leading questions, try to pry a desired response from their subject, or even just straight-up try to debate them or play "devil's advocate" for clicks and views. Olga just lets the people speak their minds, which is refreshing.

People forget that this war is about a small group of powerful people fighting for more money and power . The normal citizens are the ones that pay the price and have very little importance on the chess board .

I was in Ukraine before this conflict, 2018. I believe Ukrainians are good people, however. I have never heard such hateful rhetoric towards others than i had from Ukrainians. Glass bottles being thrown at musicians from 3 story windows in the center of Lvov in the early afternoon. Russian speaking Ukrainians being aggressively bullied for their accent. Russian speaking young men who were badly injured fighting for Ukraine being treated like dogs. Then i had the unfortunate opportunity to have drinks with the neo nazi's showing me videos of them committing literal warcrimes (murder) in Mariupol. And when we were leaving by train to Hungary, the border police tried to rob us. And we almost got arrested because they tried to take things, we were not willing to lose.
And before you call me a Russian troll. I'm canadian. With no roots in the region. However i have spent lots of time in central Europe in the last 20 years.
Im glad that i got to see some of the truths about Ukraine, before this conflict started to get a better understanding of the lies being told by my government about this conflict.
I just came from Turkey before Christmas and met lots of Russians there. Some supportive of their government, and some not. None of them ever disparaged the people of Ukraine. In all my years, i don't recall any Russians speaking poorly of Ukrainians. But Ukrainians have said some horrible things the other way around. Since well before this conflict.
Ukraine is not innocent. And neither is Russia. The west is using the lives of Ukrainians to do their bidding. And it is terribly sad. I will not choose a side in this conflict. And believe diplomacy is the only answer to peace. If not, Ukraine will be utterly destroyed. And that is terrible and unacceptable. The only people that can stop this are the Ukrainians. And when that time comes, they may find it wasn't the Russians that were the problem, but nato and their own government corruption.
May God bless the poor souls that are dying on those lands, regardless of what flag may lay beside their bodies.
About Nato. Them giving you the rope to hang yourself doesn't make them your friend. Especially if they are the one tying the noose and kicking the chair out from under you.
History has shown they will leave Ukraine broken, in massive debt. And in the gutter at first sight of trouble.

I think people often forget that both sides are suffering here. While there are indeed people in Russia who support the war and what it is attempting to achieve, many only say they do as a means of self-preservation, and it is easy to say how disingenuous or inconsiderate this preservation is when you aren't on the receiving end of intense government pressure (especially those who take offense on Ukraine's behalf in the comfort of their American homes, who don't feel the pressure of *war itself* either). They're just as human as the rest of us, and many Russians do openly speak about their opposition. It is completely unfair for one to make a blanket statement and say that they "Hate them all.", even if the foundation for that statement makes most perceive it as a justified mindset.

In 1989 or so, Kiev was made our "Sister City" - Mariposa, California by a group of teachers. We are in the mountains, near to Yosemite Park. I spent some time in Kiev and they here at my home. Also they stayed with my parents who are originally Slovak, and they could understand much of the language. What I saw in Ukraine was utter devastation and despair, all hope was lost for a better future without Russia. But a better time did come - and Putin now seeks to erase all the advances and take them back to his miserable mantra of living under the Russian yoke. Funny thing though, most of those Ukrainian teachers are now living here in California, kissing the ground each day.

Imagine like 100 years from now seeing Russia and Ukraine being friends, kinda like France and Germany for example.
