I’ve heard that BMW contracts Castrol to make their oil, not Penzoil and that the Castrol Euro oil is the acceptable replacement for the BMW oil that you would purchase at the dealership. LL14FE+ is the spec, 0W20 is the weight I usually see on the under hood sticker on most B46/B48 engines. There are other companies that make this spec oil as well. I’ve heard from Valvoline unless it has that spec and it’s a European approved oil that it could be corrosive to some metals in the engine because Europeans use a different formulation for their metals than in the USA.
