I like to change my oil every night before bed.

I change my engine oil right after I change it. You can never be too cautious.

My father always changed his at 3k. His cars lasted a long time. The last Camry our family had went 463k.
So I change every 3k.

If you plan to keep your car for 500, 000 miles, changing oil and filter every 2000 miles would take 250 oil changes. At $50.00 per oil change, that would be $12, 500.00.
Changing every 5, 000 miles would take 100 oil changes, costing $5, 000.00. You keep $7, 500.00 in your pocket and that engine still runs smooth as silk.

If I owned a GT-R I probably would take that advice on two thousand mile oil changes but for a regular vehicle everyday driver I think 5000 miles is okay

You should change the engine oil at 2000 miles and the engine at 5000 miles.

Normal day-to-day driving (non-turbo) car = Change oil with full synthetic every 6 months/5k miles. Done.

No way not 2K oil change. Waste of money. 3K or 5K is reasonable.

This is one of the top engine builders of Japan. And he knows what he is talking about.

if I had a Nissan GT-R changing the oil every 2000 miles sounds reasonable, but for my daily Mazda 3 I'll keep the interval at 5-6k miles.

I’d say for a high performance car like a GTR, sure, why not. But for an average daily driver, when the manufacturer(eg toyota) says 10, 000 miles, I’m pretty comfortable that changing oil at 5, 000 mile intervals is going to provide a very long and reliable engine service life that will exceed the economic life of the rest of the vehicle around the engine.

My 98 rav 4 with 350k miles since new I changed the oil every 2500 to 3000 miles and the engine runs perfect. No carbon no sludge

Most Canadians who care about their cars will change their oil at 5, 000 kilometers or every six months - whichever comes first.
Doing so is good practice - especially since our cars start at temperatures well below 0 degrees celsius for half the year.
Changing at the following intervals is fine - over every 6 months - whichever comes first.
5, 000 kilometers = 3, 125 miles ✅
6, 000 kilometers = 3, 750 miles ✅
7, 000 kilometers = 4, 375 miles ✅
8, 000 kilometers = 5, 000 miles ✅
Many local Toyota dealerships recommend changing oil at 8, 000 kms = 5, 000 miles :-)
5, 000 kms to 8, 000 kms or every six months - whichever comes first.
I like to follow the recommendation of AMD from The Car Care Nut - YouTube
Thumbs up if this makes sense.

Don't forget to change the air in your tires every 2 weeks. I also like to change my wiper blades after every rainfall.

I changed my oils every 3k and ran those engines well over 300k no problems

This is great advice if you’re Japanese and live in Japan. The average yearly mileage for them is 4300 miles. So he’s basically saying change the oil every 6 months. Maybe he would be mind blown to find out that annually we drive our car 4 times as many miles than they do in Japan. If they used our oil intervals they’d be changing their oil every 4 years lol.

5, 000 miles, 6 months, or 100 hours on the engine: which ever comes first.

I’m not a Nissan driver, but I definitely change my oil at 3, 000 miles. Manufacturers are doing this to get money for repairs. I’ve been wrenching for over 35 years. Vehicles are lasting longer and manufacturers are feeling the pinch! Change your oil at 3000 miles with good oil!! The companies want your money for a new engine or vehicle! Maintenance will keep it going if done correctly!!
