It’s hard to believe the Xbox One has been around for nearly 5 years. After it’s terrible announcement at E3 2013 where everything seemingly went wrong for Microsoft, the console has done fairly well. Sure, they had to backtrack on a few things, but Microsoft slowly got their groove back. The Xbox One is currently being outsold 2 to 1 by the PlayStation 4 and has also been getting outsold by the Nintendo Switch since the hybrid console launched, but the Xbox One is not far behind.

The Xbox One is such an incredible console capable of doing so much, but, if you want to keep the system in tip top shape, you have to put some effort into maintaining it. In this video, we won’t focus on what you should do to your Xbox One, but rather what you shouldn’t do to the console.

I’ve had an afterglow controller for years and it’s still fine yet the controller that I got with my Xbox one broke after 11 months

To those of you questioning the thumbnail...

Pressing the eject, bind/pair and power buttons at the same time will boot the Xbox One into the _Hidden Troubleshooting Mode._ This is a mode for when you want to update the console via USB stick or reset the console if it’s bricked or not working right. Don’t worry, it won’t harm your Xbox. It’s really only needed for emergencies, and I even used it once when my WiFi wasn’t working and I had to update it from USB stick.

Well if you do run out of batteries just plug in an USB cable. Simple.

Third party controllers are perfectly fine. I have a PDP Afterglow Prismatic controller (the newer model of the first controller you showed), and I’ve used it for a long time and it works just fine. It’s extremely durable and the USB has even survived being bent and ripped out of the console.
