Thnx this was really creative and smart. The downside is that you can't see how much force gets applied, which can burn you out as if you were doing dropsets until you run out of light weights.

it's interesting that this is such a simple concept: how he's applying resistance at a 90 degree angle to your arm as you try different arm angles (relative to torso)--but no machine comes close to this efficiency. Seems like someone would be able to make an adjustable machine that can do what he is doing. The closest is probably a padded deltoid raise--but it still doesn't allow all of these arm angles.

After your stream about the potential benefits of negative reps, I'm doing about the same. I take a slightly heavier weight than usual in unilateral exercises, lift the weight very smoothly and gently with my other hand, and lower it with the target hand only. I'm experimenting, but I've never been so sore after a workout, even when doing “golden reps” with extreme (for me, at least) intensity. So in some exercises I am my own trainer. I'm thinking how this can be implemented for large muscle groups, not only for arms.
