"they would not sit on it long"... Viserys I ruled for twenty-six years, Aerys II for twenty-one... 😕

I love the depictions of the book throne. I love things that are asymmetrical and that throne definitely scratches that itch. Or stabs it I guess.

Is it a metaphor or did Aegon just think I want a throne made of swords and then later refused to admit that he made any mistakes.

The canon reason is that robert made the throne less targaryen right?

Now it’s the Iron Stump.
A reminder of what happens when you kinda forget about your TV Show.

I love how this is clearly based on the story of the Sword of Damocles.

For those saying Viserys sat on it for long - no he didn't. He was first cut by the throne when Vaemond Velaryon was killed by Rhaenyra and his family came looking for Viserys seeking the king's justice only for Viserys to order their tongues cut. Viserys couldn't descend the throne after giving that order before being mortally cut by the throne. The few remaining years he had after that was painful as hell and he never sat the throne again until he died.

Same with Aerys II. He started off his reign as a pretty decent king but after he was held hostage during the Defiance of Duskendale, he went "mad" and started getting cut by the throne. His reign didn't last long after that.

Only two people who 'deserved' the throne (according to 'the metaphor') was Aegon the Conqueror and Jaehaerys The Conciliator.

"Ouch my colon hurt" said the king ferociously. 💀

I saw a comment once saying that the throne would cut those who are “unworthy” to sit on it.

I don't know how consistent this is with the books, since I have only read parts of different ones. But it was really interesting.

Something tells me everyone who sat the throne has cut themselves.

Be it the Conqueror, his two wives and hands, the Abomination, the Cruel, the Conciliator, the Young, the Usurper, the Maegor with teats, the Dragonbane, the Young Dragon, the Blessed, the Old, the Unworthy, the Good, the Bookworm, the Anvil, the Unlikely, the Sick, the Mad, the Usurper Stag, the Ill Born and the Boy King.

Yet Aegon the Unworthy never even pricked himself, strange.

I can definitely see Yujiro sitting on it and saying it tickles.

More likely they cut themselves as a metaphor for the throne rejecting them and deeming them unworthy of it.
