I don't think how you practice standing on one leg matters too much, just doing it is what really matters. However you do it. I'm 63 and i just started three weeks ago practicing standing on one leg and I couldn't stand on either leg for 30 seconds. And just two weeks later I had worked myself up to standing on one leg for five minutes and taking a minute to relax my body and then standing on the other leg for five minutes and I do that daily.

I certainly agree with him though that it is a great thing to do, because it isn't just working on balance. It's working on balance, strength, concentration, being calm and staying in the moment. When your balance and strength isn't that good yet, it is concentration, calmness and being present (staying in the moment and not looking ahead and wanting to be done) that helps you maintain the balance.

Someday I'll have the balance and strength to do five minutes without paying much attention but for now, my success comes from adding concentration, relaxation (breathing) and staying in the moment as helpers.

I tried this exercise, and another one of your balance exercises first thing this morning . It was great! And I'm not a morning person, so I was proud of myself. Big issues with longtime SI joint arthritis and all muscles on left side being underdeveloped. Progress doesn't happen overnight., as it's hard to build muscle over age 60. Thanks for all these videos!

I can't grip the floor with my toes, as I have neuropathy. But looks like something I can do, even without gripping with my toes.
