Than you, these problems were a bit hard to digest, but after following your logic and using the table and notes, like you suggested; It made it manageable. I'm training for my CBEST test math portion and I've really understood how to break these Rate, Distance, Time problems down with your help. Thanks again!

What hurts so many students in these problems often is not drawing a picture and understanding the three scenarios: same direction, round trip and opposite direction. The equation is always very simple to solve.

Need to seek clarification re example #4...if we put t - 3 to the 30 km/h (because it took less 3 hrs to get there) we get the answer of 9 hrs...but if we put t + 3 to 20 km/h the answer is 6. The issue is what is the logic for latter than the former although the latter is of course correct...going by the question I would prefer for the former...please help and reply

example With the submarines is all it took 3 hour less time to get there( t-3) than back. So the T-3 should be in sub there column under time!
