The Ultimate Jointer Pushblock

To make using the jointer safer (and at the same time, get better results), I made this simple push block with some scrap materials I found around the shop.

Interesting design. I have one comment that is not meant to be a criticism. I was always taught that you should push down on the wood over the outfeed side of the jointer. I typically use rubber bottomed push blocks (which does not have the advantage to grab the wood like your design). I use 1 rubber block and as my left hand gets about 1 foot past the cutterhead, I'll slide it back to be just past the cutterhead. Maybe not the best approach, but it's always worked for me so any feedback to educate me a bit is appreciated.

I do it the same way Charlie K explains. If you push down on the tail end you're going to get sniped on the tail as it gets c.ose to the cutter head. You can use that kind of push block but don't push down just use it to push forward.😊

Interesting, that's very very similar to the design I came up with a few years ago. I didn't see a reason to make the block so thick though, I might have even used plywood on mine, but I made it much longer so I could apply pressure on the front handle and the back handle.

I used the plane style handle like you did, which lets me exert forward force while adjusting my left-handed grip.

Great pushblock and execution but I'd suggest always walking (with) your wood through the jointer and moving along side of it to minimize reaching over the blade... so rather than pushing across the blade sort of push/pull it thru ; can never be too safe!

WTF?
I'm watching an episode of Woodsmith Shop on PBS right now.
Dude is talking about CNC and routering plastic and aluminum.
How about more woodworking and a little less other materials? I mean high tech is great and all that, but let's not bow down before it so lowly that we get raped up the ass. Geez.

Got wood?
