Every Style of Hot Dog We Could Find Across the US

Hot dogs are about as American as apple pie. It's not uncommon for different states to offer their unique spins on classic American cuisine, and the hot dog industry is no exception. While some stands and shops take inspiration from other popular local cuisines for their toppings (like adding coleslaw or fish sticks to their classic franks and buns), others insist on layering, excluding, or adding ingredients to ensure their dogs remain a distinct staple to their regional style.

man, i loved this episode. Seeing different states takes on foods was one of my favorite things to watch as a kid on food network. This brought me right back.

I'm from NC, slaw dogs are good, the sweetness of the slaw balanced out the spiciness of the chili. There's also a place called Paul's Place in Rocky Point that made their own relish and sold it in the grocery store....we used to put that on hot dogs all the time, with tater chips and a Cheerwine. 😋😊

LA street hot dogs have a special place in my heart, every single concert or event I've been to in LA, you bet a street vendor will be waiting outside grilling some tasty dogs, the caramelized onions are the best part!

WHY DO ALL CORN DOGS LOOK ALIKE?

BECAUSE THEY'RE IN BREAD!

I would like to try ALL of them. But being from the Midwest the Chicago Dog is a favorite of mine as is the Cozy Dog corn dog from Cozy Dog in Springfield IL who also claims to be the original inventor. Also, one of the last places to serve foot long dogs is a little stand known as Carls in Brentwood Mo. I'm 74 and have been stopping by Carls for a footlong or two and a cold, frosty schooner of IBC root beer since I was 13. Closest thing to heaven without having to die first.

I don’t know what other foods you could do this series on, but I will watch every single episode. This is a great idea.

I've seen people post some hotdogs from Brazil or other countries and claim they're superior to US hotdogs. But, they don't realize how large the United States is and how many different varieties of hot dogs and condiments we have. Thanks for putting it in perspective with just a FRACTION of all the hotdogs in the USA.

Cincinnati has a forgotten hot dog that used to be served at Reds games. The Big Red Smokie, was a skinless smoked sausage made by local meat processor Khans. They were beautiful, a perfect snap with a hickory smoke flavor which is great with this spicy mustard they have there.

Today I learned that apparently Greek immigrants are hot dog experts. There's like three or four people featured here that made the first of various regional dogs. I, an Italian-American, find more reasons to respect Greece and its people as the days go by. :D

Endless possibilities with this series; Delicatessens across the US, regional pizza styles, hamburger favorites, ice cream shops... I could go on, but that's a fun little list off the top of my head. This is the first time I've seen this channel, but I dig it!

Super cool episode, I had no idea what other states are doing with their dogs but that was very cool. Your channel is awesome.

As a North Carolinian, our dogs are staples here. But nothing can compete to a coney, (or the skyline dog, but I’ve always still heard them referred to as coneys by my mom who was raised there) all the way with Skyline Chili and Tabasco on top during a cold day. I was 8 when I had my first ever coney in Cincinnati. It was cold as hell outside, and I put Tabasco on top of those chili cheese and onions (I hated onions as a kid but this converted me) and I took a bite of my first ever real deal dog and fell in love. I’m 32 now and have chased that taste ever since. Coneys will always have a place in my heart.

You forgot that Chicago has a second style of hotdogs called the Maxwell street polish. A Vienna beef polish grilled on the flattop served with caramelized onions, sauerkraut, and mustard on a steamed bun

I always knew of the famous hot dogs in Seattle as Seattle Dogs, so I was initially bummed to see something else made the list, Bagel Dogs. That is, until I saw how they were made with yummy cream cheese goodness, and at that point I realized they just went by another name I hadn't yet heard about. Sooo good! Really, this whole list makes me want to do a road trip around the states!

Chicago dogs are definitely my favorite. Spending most of my time in Texas, there are mostly chili dogs but you can get a rare good Chicago dog from certain places. First time I went to Chicago, I immediately had to get one and it was amazing. A Chicago dog from Navy Pier is phenomenal

One of my favorite narrator voices. Dude deserves top of the line gigs. Dude very clearly nearly makes the channel.

can vouch for Cincinnati style coneys, Skyline is a potentially acquired taste for some but if you're one who usually leans towards heat/spicy foods, their habanero cheese is absolutely game changing

This is a great story. We ran a Top Dog cart in DFW for years and brought in different hot dogs and buns from around the country. By far, the Chicago style was the most popular followed by a Texas chili dog. We only did catering jobs and were booked solid from Memorial Day through football season. We traveled to many different spots and a few of our favorites were the Skyline, Maxwell Polish, the Sonoran and the Detroit Coney. If you’re ever in Denver, a trip to Biker Jim’s is a treat as is Pink’s in LA. The ripper in NJ is also a great dog but the Italian served at Jimmy Buff’s was too much for us.
