Morecambe is pronounced MOR-CAM.
It's very well known for quicksand and there are many rescues each year. The sand looks firm and inviting but can be treacherous. The added danger is the tide comes in extremely quickly.

But they always say it's rare somebody submerged in quicksand you just get stuck up to your waist or your kneecaps. Or they saying if you're not careful when they rescue you if you rush it can snap you in half.

The reason I'm looking this up is because I got scared the other day. I accidentally drove my car into a really muddy field. It didn't look like it was that bad, but all of a sudden, my car sank deeply enough that I could not drive out. I got out of the car, and the ground was squishy. It was gravelly, not exactly sand, but it was slightly sinking beneath my feet when I took steps. I had to go get somebody to pull me out with a tow truck and a winch hooked to my wheel. It wasn't quicksand, but it reminded me enough of it that I was really scared.

Quicksand isn't nearly as bad as what you see in movies. You sink very slowly unless you struggle. The risk isn't sinking into the quicksand but getting stuck in it. Most people die from exposure or drown when the tide comes in. Not from quickly sinking and drowning in the quicksand. But staying calm is important, and laying on your back and slowly getting unstuck is your best move. The idea is to distribute your weight evenly across the surface. You can then crawl out on your back or stomach once your legs are free. Rolling out might work as well and might make it easier to cover more ground quickly.
