It blows my mind that I'm sitting here with a smartphone watching an audiologist look inside his own ear with a camera and making his eardrum move at the same time he narrates and scoops wax out. What a world we live in!

I had a bad ear blockage and had tried oil and bicarbonate drops to little effect.

I was worried about using one of these but i thought I'd give it a go as i couldn't hear.

Took a bit of getting used to, care and some patience but it was incredible when I slowly removed all the wax, when that last big bit came out and I could hear again...wow.

On the last review, I can’t remember if I mentioned this or not. They’re really useful for keeping an eye on cartilage piercings. Before I had to use a flashlight and a handheld magnifying mirror in my bathroom to try to make sure they were okay while healing. Now I can just use the camera.

I think it is very useful as a mother to keep an eye on ear health in this way... and with toddlers/preschoolers who sometimes put things in their ears or nose... to check it regularly... because they often only say it when it is is going to hurt. and then the swelling often makes it more difficult/painful to remove.

I've had ear infections since I was a little kid. I still haven't figured out a way to completely prevent ear infections. My ear camera has been a lifesaver though. If I feel it's starting to get infected, I can just take a look and possibly do something about it. I can also take pictures and send them to a teledoc to get a prescription to clear up an infection. No office visit needed.

I use something similar for my patients. The phone app is actually the same. It helps to get the patient to also see what the doctor is looking at inside the ear. It helps the patient be more involved in the diagnosis.

After watching the professionals regarding ear cleaning; I would never clean my own ears again. Saying that, the camera would be a great way to be aware of anything that needs a pro.👍🏻

It may not be altogether a bad thing that the scoops hurt a bit... it could keep people from doing REALLY stupid stuff.

As a medical provider, it could be SUPER helpful just in terms of 1) getting kids to be so fascinated that they would sit still for an ear exam (holy crap... I would have been asking to go to the doctor ALL THE TIME when I was a kid if I could have seen my ear drums!) and 2) allowing for video visits to diagnose ear infections 3) teaching specialties that tend to over-diagnose AOM (if I read another note that says that the TM was "dull and pink" and makes a diagnosis of AOM instead of OME... wait. Never mind. I read one of those pretty much every day...)

Hi Connor, these videos are amazing. I have learned a great deal from watching them and find the biology/ physiology absolutely fascinating. I’m tempted to get one of these small cameras to keep tabs on what is going on in our ears as I recently pulled from my good lady’s shell like what I now recognise to be dead skin - we thought it was wax that had been blanched by drops. Very satisfying to extract as she was suffering complete hearing loss in her right ear and removing the long whorl of white debris restored her hearing to 100%. It felt brilliant to be able to do this!

These cleaners may seem useful, but some of the ones on Amazon are very cheaply made and can be dangerous. I purchased once that had a light that became hot very quickly, hot enough to cause mild burns to the inside of my ear. I don't have any permanent damage, but I had quite a bit of swelling and pain for a long time.

I have one of these, I was keen to see what my ears were like inside as I've never had them cleaned however I would never use the tools to clean my ears. But I do like that I can take a picture of my ear drum and save it to my phone incase I need to show it to my GP

FYI I used this to get the smallest piece of wax out of my ear that was driving me insane! Idk how your patients come in with a full wall over their ear drum 😢

The one I have has a micro USB to attach to a phone and I experience the same the end gets quite hot but its fun to look at things closely. I bought it so I could record my sons ears as he has a wax problem and could show the build up to specialists

Do you see many people that have used these home ear cleaning kits but gone horribly wrong? There must be some people that have gone too hard/fast and caused themselves an injury 😭😱

As an obsessive ear cleaner, I will look at getting this, as then I can tell if was etc is moving towards outer ear or if I do actually need to clean them. I tend to use warm gentle spray of water once a week when washing my hair.. I find the spiral cleaners of no use... But my ears drain moist wax at night sometimes .. I try not to use cotton buds, but if my ears are driving me mad, I tend to find I have a hard or big piece of wax...

i have a cheap camera like this and it took me far too long to realize you can check the orientation of the camera by just pointing it straight at your face. that way you can spin it whatever way you need and it's a lot easier to maneuver...probably less helpful for you connor and more for any fellow lay people in the comments ; ]

this is a pretty awesome gadget. I wouldn’t attempt to clean my ears with it but if it was having a problem you could get a look 👀 inside before calling you or if you live too far. find a Reputable Audiologist. by the way. thanks for the video. good information 👍
