Just because the makers of the bridgerton wanted to show her character look layered and wanted to added a reasoning as to why she is not a "jolly good sports" unlike her other sisters. They changed Michael Stirling only to add that to that reasoning. I am not a homophobic but I know so many people wanted Michael Stirling character to be there. Just because it's regency era and people were not open about queer relationships and franchesca also had a quiet personality that doesn't mean her personality is a reason for her bring queer. It was regency era all the other bridgerton girls were "jolly good sports" only because it is mentioned over and over again that they had three older brothers otherwise the way unmarried girls are treated and kept away from men in the ball scenes even and always with a chaperone franchesca's character makes sense.
