I only noticed just now how every debutante (idk what to call them lol) wears similar dresses. The Featheringtons in s1 and Eloise in s2 wore dresses that were designed to look the same--maybe so the Queen can spot the one and only unique "diamond" from the parade of similar-dressed debutantes.

The reason everybody is gasping when the Featheringtons girls enter is because is very low class to have all your daughters out at once. It's another hint to the viewer that they're having financial troubles. They're trying to save money. It's why Portia wouldn't let Penelope defer for a year and present at the same time as Eloise.

It's interesting to me that her sort of fae beauty is now being called plain or dull, especially since so many still get plastic surgery to get this ethereal look artificially, and then end up getting called out for looking artificial and like dolls instead of people.


Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

One can see across millenniums of human history that cultural and societal traditions of beauty change. Rarely do we living now looking back on the past sculptures, paintings and so on see any portrayals as ughly.

We rather judge our ancestors for their cruelty, and often then make fun of them for being so unenlightened even while we ourselves indulge with ferocity in thinking we know better, so many speaking before truly thinking.

When I first saw Daphne I felt she was very unimpressive in terms of looks, especially next to the duke. But the actress really brought something special, innocent and even sparkling to Daphne.
