Every country has a spot in the polar ice for their "research". I believe Byrd did have this experience, otherwise the gov't would not have confiscated all of his papers about this event and would not have told him that he could not speak about this.

The ice wall starts at the equator and ends at 20 degrees south in the Tropic of Capricorn, meaning it divides the Earth into two halves. After that, the unknown continents come under the ice wall and end at 60 degrees south, after which we enter the Antarctic Circle, and then the Antarctic begins at 80 degrees south.
