Technical pen repair with sand paper

Learning how to fix old rough scratchy technical pens with fine grit sand paper, making them smoother to draw with. After some experimentation I found a system that works (starting at 8:48 but if you want to know my reasoning behind it watch the whole video).
Probably won't make a usable pen any better but will make a unusable pen usable.

need to keep the pen vertical if you are going to do this, and you need finer sand paper. Maybe 10, 000 grit. 2000 grit is very coarse. You also need to remove the weighted needles inside the nibs or you are going to ruin them too. I wish that you would stop making these videos. You really have no idea what you are doing and are going to cause a lot of people to ruin their pens.

You gave that chinese pen more love and effort than it received in the concept/production stage.

Love your videos there's a lot of stuff that I am also interested as I have a love for pens and pencils much the same as you do I will be watching more !

I managed to pick up a Rotring Rapidograph set at a Salvos for only AUD 8 - there were 4 of the actual Rapidograph pens, along with 3 technical pencils, some leads, some ink cartridges, a compass and an eraser.
I don't think they had any idea how much they are actually worth, (and nor did I at the time) but having looked up the prices I realised I was amazingly lucky that day.
The issue I have found though is that the ink cartridges that were in the set appear to be dried out as it will not feed any ink through the pens.
I have tried cleaning the pens in warm water etc, but the problem seems to be that the ink cartridges are probably many years old and consequently dried out.
There's nowhere local to me that sells those particular ink cartridges so I am going to have to order them online or find a shop that does actually sell them.
(just found one in Gladesville NSW)
I am hoping that they will work ok when I do eventually get some fresh cartridges, as I am looking forward to using them on Bristol board and I especially want to try some stippling effect drawings with them.

Haven't used a technical drawing pen since 2015... Have used roterings for my architectural working drawing portfolios on vellum sheets. Also, I used to do professional drafting works back then. Didn't buy them, they were handed down from my seniors. I might have bought a single bottle of ink in my entire life, since I stayed at a hostel for Architecture students I had access to endless supply of Inks😁😁😁I only had to ask.

I love getting used technical pens at bargain prices can fixing them myself (if there are problems at all). I go all the way up to 10000 grit sandpaper.

After sanding with the sandpaper I'd rather go with some felt pad and ~6000 paste. It polishes in a different way and produces the smoothest result, IMO.

Try 8000 or 10000 grit wet/dry paper instead.
