For all of you wanting to five up...don't! I promise it gets so much easier! Make struggle your friend. Bring the guitar close to you and use ARM strength to help get this thing down. I know you can do it. So for a fellow guitar player....please don't even think of giving up. Me and my guitar have been through some struggles.. but we're best friends :)

It's even harder for people with short fingers like me

Thanks! This works! Yep important parts for me were 1. The index finger on an angle and 2. Make sure your finger tips are right at the end of the fret. Perfect position is key for this one

For any of you sillies who need them calluses on your hands really fast, after you're done playing guitar and your fingers hurt so bad you want to break the neck of your guitar, dip the tips of your fingers in isopropyl alcohol and let them dry.

Old Eric Clapton trick. c:

When I was learning the F chord, I had problems holding that bar, so I began rubbing the crap out of the middle of my index finger with sandpaper and then using alcohol after I was done, and now the skin has less depth when pressed down upon by a string making that F chord tons easier.

A little tip from someone who was very close to quitting guitar out of frustration.

Hope it helps somewhat.

Picking up a guitar again after - gasp - more than 40 years, and this was my first major challenge learning chords. I'm slowly getting the F chord with this technique. This is a terrific lesson - thank you for sharing!

Nice, clear lesson. I like how you show the knuckle pop up. It's hard to see on the guitar but it's clear when you show it separately.

two weeks of practicing this everyday for at least ten minutes was what it took for me to get this chord down. A lot of time for one chord X_x

I remember when I barely started to learn this chord. The struggle was real 👌

Guys, don't expect to learn to play this, or any barre chord perfectly the first time. As with anything concerning guitars, it's gonna take time and practice before you can play it like this dude here. Don't get frustrated, and don't quit.

I just ordered my guitar and was about to send it back, after tuning it, because my F Chord didn't sound ANYTHING like what I heard. After a few videos I came here to discover that everybody has trouble with this. I feel so much better.

Learn the barre, it's worth it as it's a movable chord, G, A Bb C D all comfortably in range. Took me my summer holidays in 1965, but it was SO worth doing.

guys, dont give up, this guy is demonstrating the f chord, and yet he too suffers from "buzziness"! this is testament to how difficult it is, keep plugging away and you can do it. it is gona be one long painful road, but keep pluggin away till your weakness becomes second nature

Glad I watched your video. I have the bar version F down but have never been able to get the first version of the F chord down. Being a newbie to guitar it had not dawned on me that they are close enough. Now to learn to switch between C, F, and G smoothly.

Other guitar 'teachers' on YT take at least one minute banging on about themselves or irrelevant stuff. Not you! Straight in with really good practical advice. Good on yer mate!
