Low fatigue high volume workouts are becoming more popular and for many good reasons. They can be less harsh on the body and mind, you can recover faster and you may even be able to build more muscle from them.

If a guy wanted to join the special forces, I would recommend them maintain a high volume low fatigue program for a while to build up a base layer of strength and conditioning before ramping up like they were peaking for a fight. Nobody can do hell week all year long.

this is working great for me but you have to grease the groove like Pavel says "do as much as possible, as long as possible while staying fresh as possible" Do 5 days a week, 5 or more sets at 50% to 75% of 1 set max reps is what works. Any less than 50% doesn't build anything, any more than 75% burns you out and makes you sore. After a couple of weeks you can almost hear the muscles grow at night. Matt you should push this as the easy pain free way for beginners to start with push ups and squats.

Listen to what your body is telling you what it can and can't do.. In my 20s into my 30's I could tell my body what to do, and it almost always did what I told it.
Those days are gone. After 40, I could suggest things...sometimes, but into my late 50s, my body now tells me by hurting so bad, breaking down or simply quitting,

This type of training is perfect for me. You do get strong without the pain, you can still walk to the bed and get out of it after working out. I haven't been about PRs or any such nonsense for the last 20yrs, yet still trained the same way, and just kept injuring myself. I have found a better way.

I want to get proficient and strong at body weight exercises... My strategy currently is to grease the groove every day focusing on one exercise-type per day. Day 1 Push up. Day 2 pull up. Day 3 L-sit. Day 4 Dips. Day 5 chin up. I don't care much about hypertrophy.

that was a great breakdown of the values of each and the best way for the individual to integrate what works for them.

In regards to Firas Zahabi (the MMA coach on JRE), you need to remember that his point of view on strength training is based on it's effectiveness for his athletes. There's no point of burning out an MMA athlete with an intense bodybuilding style regime (extreme example I know) when the low fatigue/high frequency kind of strength training Firas talks about can be way more effective and useful. It all depends on what the person needs.

Christian Thibaudeau teaches these ideas in weight lifting for natties. It's cool to see you saying virtually the exact same thing. Makes me feel I'm right on track.

true, I am 42 and after a bad spine injury I went back exercises regularly with a physiotherapist. I can do 8-10 chin-ups but then I am done. What I do then is 10 x 5 series of pull ups and chin ups with some elastic bands. In this way my muscles are growing faster. I also do two long and tough workouts a week and two short ones, more sort of pilates... combining the two is great: I still get to workout even if my muscles have not fully recovered and this is so good for my health and gains.

When it comes to skill training (in other words, almost all training) children can be a good source of knowledge. They don't learn to walk by standing up or taking as many steps as they can for 3 sets and then rest a couple of days... Multiple attempts with low effort is how they do it, and in my opinion it's a natural way to train. Frequent and light/friendly forms of competition to boost intensity.
