DO IT! I am a melanoma survivor and I am always on the watch for melanoma lesions on friends, family, co-workers, and strangers. If we can save ONE life via this kind of vigilance and willingness to be a little forward, isn't it worth it? You bet.

My daughter had a malignant melanoma on her back at 19. She had surgery and 1 month of chemo 5 days a week. He Dr put her in a study, the Sunbelt Trial. They watched her for 10yrs. When we came to Tampa and my husband started going to Moffitt he had a Dr tell him that due to the Sunbelt Trial study they discovered many things including what POT1 gene meant. My husband had it and so did my daughter. It was a marker for melanoma. Trial studies are so important. Thank you Dr. Maybe I'll see you around sometime. Glad you're in Tampa now. 😊

The 9mm melanoma on top of my ear was diagnosed and treated before it spread to lymph nodes because my hairdresser, who had himself had skin cancer, noticed it and pointed it out to me. I was very glad he spoke up.

Great information. I have been fighting melanoma for 34 years. Don’t ever think it all goes away

I’m only a dental hygienist and I have told many people to see a dermatologist for suspicious looking lesions as we were taught this in school to some degree. One girl in her 30s went because I told her she really needed a spot checked by her nose. She came in months later with a chunk taken off her face and told me if she hadn’t gone when I mentioned it, they would have had to remove part of her nose.

As a skin cancer patient, it concerns me that something so visible is ignored! I went in for a squamous spot. Was only supposed to be an hour……8 hours and a skin graft (the size of my thumb nail) later I was released. I have a spot on my nose that is different in color than my surrounding skin. I do my best to cover it, but when people react to it, it gives me an opportunity to encourage others to observe and be their own advocate for health care. Stay vigilant!!

I had basal cell carcinoma on my face for 7 years. I wish I had passed you l the street! I can't even count how many doctors I saw over those 7 years INCLUDING a dermatologist who removed something benign an inch or two away. Please show this comment to your husband. When I was finally diagnosed, the dermatologist assured me that it was a slow growing cancer and I would be fine. He was right in my case but I knew a woman who was not so fortunate..

I would appreciate it and you are doing a selfless service. Leave husband home. He needs a time- out to reflect. Sharing knowledge and showing even an ounce of compassion is for the benefit of all of us.

Basal cell carcinoma is less aggressive type of skin cancer, but watch out if it affects any anatomical structure close to a mucosa or cartilage like mouth, eye lids, nose or ears then you are in trouble because they can be very aggressive a local invasive and can spread far from the region
