Can a computer recognise skin cancer? Andre Esteva and colleagues have trained a neural network to identify the difference between harmless moles and potentially deadly skin conditions - with remarkable accuracy.

had a mole nudged between my eye and ear and removed it using tweezers and a dental lance however it was painless which was odd but the downside is that it left a surrounding lesion that was not damaged and felt maybe this was a sign of melanoma since it is abnormal for the surrounding area to be damaged even though no damage was inflicted on that area.

wouldn't exactly call artifical neural networks 'algorithms'. To me that would imply we have an exact understanding of the logic of how we get a result. Neural networks are, however, mostly a black box in this regard.
