I get heartburn all the time. People who don't suffer from it don't understand just how painful it is.

Kinda wish you would have mentioned that sometimes reflux can be a symptom of underlying condition. I had suffered from reflux since 13 years old. Till I hit 29 and got tired of it and a GI figured out I have achalasia of the esphogus and it can mimic acid reflux. It was really Food getting stuck and fermenting causing acid reflux symptoms. Always have a doctor confirm that what you have is really acid reflux

I suffer from acid reflux problems because I have a sliding hiatus hernia (or hiatal hernia, the name is different in different countries). These tips are definitely useful. I hate eating big meals because it is a trigger for me. My dad raised the back legs on my bed frame so that the entire bed is at a slight tilt. You can buy bed risers for this or put some sturdy pieces of wood under the legs of the bed frame. Of course you could also use pillows to prop yourself up, but I didn’t find that to be as effective because I always seemed to slide off the pillows in the night.

A few other tips:
-Don’t eat spicy food
-Don’t eat or drink very acidic things (this includes vinegar, I have no idea why some people are recommending this as a cure, it will only make your stomach more acidic…)
-Don’t drink carbonated beverages (the gas pushes the acid upwards in your stomach)
-If the heartburn occurs during the day, try eating a small amount of neutral food (E.g. plain bread, plain crackers, plain rice.) to absorb some of the stomach acid
-Do not eat or drink anything with mint in it. Mint relaxes the stomach muscles which make it good for nausea but cause the stomach to allow acid to escape more easily

Regarding the second tip, I think complementary advice would be not to eat for several hours before bed. The only time I've gotten reflux is eating too soon before bed and waking up with heartburn.

I get acid reflux almost everyday. I’ve had crippling stomah pain for a few months and it gets so bad I can’t move or I’ll throw up. Most of it is dry heaving but anyways I’ve been to many specialists and doctors who have no idea what it is. They ruled out most of the common things for stomach pain but now I’m worried it might be something abnormal. But this, explains a lot. Thank you.

I bought a wedge pillow from Walmart online about four years ago and the difference it has made is amazing. I won't ever sleep a night without it.

Can I only eat breakfast and lunch only? No dinner? Because I feel bloated the whole afternoon and hard to eat at night. Should I skip dinner? Can I skip it?

I was able to mostly cure my acid reflux with a combination of acidic stuff and alkaline stuff. On days my acid reflux was too bad I would take omeprazole, every other day I would take kombucha and apple cider vinegar and I was able to greatly mitigate my acid reflux.. there's a small number of things that profoundly help me but not eating 3 hours before bed was the biggest help. Go to bed on an empty stomach

These are helpful tips but should also treat the root cause.

I think it only happens to people that used to over eat or drink. Think about it overeating, feeling bloated, causing pressure to the mouth of stomach, do this regularly your stomach muscles weaken and have trouble closing after a meal, thus acid going up the esophagus. Not sure just my hypothesis.

When I was pregnant I just had a bottle of gavicon with me 24/7. My bedside one was a 1l own brand. It as good as gavicon and so much cheaper. And by the end of my first pregnancy I stopped using the spoon. I just took a swig. I literally went to hospital with it with both my children and out right refused to turn it over to the midwife.
