My sister and i were on vacation in Portugal, when my older sister was a tour guide on that trip. In the morning we thought we would go for a dip in the sea and swim, when we were already going to the sea to swim, the lifeguard hollered and shouted after us something in Portuguese that we didn''t understand. My sister asked in English what is the matter, we were shown a black flag on the roof of the lifeguard booth. Confused, we asked the purpose of the flag, he said that there were sharks near the beach, so it is safest to stay on the beach sunbathing. Luckily, our accommodation had a swimming pool available, a few days later we went to the beach and noticed that the black flag was no longer on the roof. The lifeguard was sitting still and when he saw our hesitant expressions as we looked towards the sea he came and said yes you can go swimming now it''s safe. Afterwards we laughed at what the lifeguard might have thought when he saw our bewildered expressions. But even the thought that the lifeguard wouldn''t have been there to warn you definitely gives you goosebumps and chills down your spine!!!!.... Probably our lives would have ended in an instant if we had had to experience a fatal shark attack and become the target of it on that trip?!. I''ve read that sharks can smell blood up to five kilometers away, but probably the shark senses the vibrations from the water even better?.
