Droids can absolutely be reasoned with. It's happening in this scene. They're literally hearing mace windu out instead of blindly following their programming and shooting at both Jedi on sight.

We've seen droids collaborating with clones and jedis without being reprogrammed. We've seen droids begging for mercy and asking for help before getting demolished by a jedi. We've seen droids expressing emotions like joy and despair so this scene have a lot of sense. If even astromech and protocol droids have their own personality, why a Battle droid cannot ?

Droids in star wars aren't just robots. They have emotions and a sense of self-preservation which are some of the biggest influencing factors in any surrender.

Having played SWTOR, this is a reacurring trait of the Jedi. Almost every Jedi you fight gives you an opportunity to lay down your arms, change your ways, and other pacifist rhetoric.

They'll fight and kill you, but only if you give them no other choice.

First off the fact that he actually tried to resolve things peacefully is a sign of growth from how he would typically handle these situations at the beginning of the war, secondly DROIDS CAN AND HAVE SURRENDERED IN THIS VERY SERIES

Nah i think it was more like: the kill count thing was a "lead" up to his true intention. Letting them know of their inefficiency. The kill count in a droids mind would just lead to a calculation to determine they are horribly inefficient. It didnt work however because they are in vast numbers here and their chances go up with it. He was just letting them know it was a false calculation. We're shown in many cases droids will sometimes compromise when faced with terrible odds and having their missions or programming parameters directly interfered with, like an AI, and that's all that attempt was. Mace just didn't know that B1's and B2's are basically lobotomised without a command unit or higher, and there was none present.

My favorite battle droid story is a comic about a droid who cracked his skull and decided he didnt want to fight and he liked plants and making things grow. He deserted and got tracked but eventually got away, just to sit under a tree he liked and let his charge run out. Hundreds and hundreds of years later 2 farmers find him and say how rare a droid is and that theyll replace his battery and see if he can help them farm.
