I watched my history teacher pick up a book he had no knowledge of (I did one of my favorite books) and he read 7 pages in a minute. He spoke about details even I didn't pick up the first time I slow read it and he had.incredible detail. Truly the fastest reader I've ever seen.

Here are the follow-up videos in this series!

If you're here to say speed reading works and you'd like to dispute the research in this video, you're more than welcome to! However, keep in mind that neither I nor any other discerning person will be convinced by arguments such as:

- "I can read at 1000wpm, this video is wrong."
- "I saw a guy in my town read at 1000wpm, this video is wrong."

Anecdotal evidence isn't worthless, but it isn't sufficient to refute research done using the scientific method. Even if it's written in all caps ;)

This video couldn't have come at a better time. For the past two weeks, I've been very frustrated with my reading speed. I've never asked anyone about how reading speed works. Now I know.

When watching videos like this I turn the speed up to 1.5 or 2.0 depending on how fast the presenter is speaking. I basically can watch 2x as many videos that way. Use the gear on the video. Start at 1.5 if you can't handle 2.0 right away. Your brain will get used to it.

My buddy reads something like 800WPM and his comprehension and memory is incredible. One time he read a page in 10-15 seconds and repeated at least 20% of it verbatim, with the rest still being accurate. Speed reading is not a myth, however guru websites contaminate its reality.

Some of the reported studies were on people who hadn't had any training in speed reading. It's obvious that if a person who subvocalizes on a daily basis stops doing it, comprehension drops - but what about trained speed readers?

I'm so happy you exist and are doing these videos. They're helping me become a better student but also a better person. Keep up the work! It's greatly appreciated. :)

Now my video editing envy/appreciation has turned to just pure appreciation my friend. One of the things that I love about your videos is that you do give the logic and science behind it.

My nerd tendencies just eats it up and then my Virgo tendencies quickly turns it into---ok so what does this actually mean and look like? How can I break it down into actionable steps? What are the best places and times to apply this for every class scenario. What does this mean for science majors, english majors, history majors...etc

Thank you so much for all the time you take in creating your videos. You are my unofficial study skills biz/content creator mentor : )

We've chatted about study skills now we need to chat about your biz, content planning etc.

Lol brother thanks for this I got obsessed for a while about that subject but then I concluded when i am reading my advance astrophysics and quantum physics books that it was not smart at all to read fast but actually to read slower and connect info from the books and all the knowledge I have acquired before, and try super comprehend what i am reading and try to understand even more than what i am reading rather than speed reading. I KNEW THAT THEN IT PROBABLY IS B.S ABOUT SPEED READING. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS

Very effective speaking and concise explanations while covering the topic well, very anti-BS and realistic info too with the comprehension/speed inverse relation. Great vid. Subscribed.

Speed all depends on what you're reading. Hitchhiker's Guide? Booze right through it. Medical school physiology book (even though I'm not in med school)? 4-5 pages per day (seriously). BUT, I learn SO MUCH in those 4-5 pages. I truly UNDERSTAND the content.
