You give the most tangible, practical and coherent lifting advice on youtube.

The whole "counter weight" cue is so essential and make so much sense. Going to start practicing that!

That's good coaching right there Mike. Need more small clips like that.

That cue seems so obvious yet I just haven't used it. Definitely adding it in now.

SHIT! Always dropping that good knowledge on us! Keep that SHIT up bro! I just got back into pulling sumo. Tweaked my back a little doing conventional, but that neither here nor there. And as always, keep preaching that SHIT!

Wonderful advice! I don't know why you call yourself Silent Mike because you speak a lot of gold.

Does the falling back technique apply to conventional as well?

cool advice about the drop back.  my legs are super long and I've always had trouble getting the shins vertical.  right now I'm pulling conventional for a change, but when switching back to sumo, I'm gonna have to try that.

I think you need to point out that the knees out is not the only thing you are looking for. Glute activation for most of us shlubs is extremely difficult and one of the ways to begin the activation and proper use of the glutes is through sumo. The movement I have found that is key is the rotation of the thighs to the outside - pushing your knees out is not the right cue, push and slightly rotate your thighs to get your ass to grab the weight is what you want. You can then start bringing this technique into your conventional deadlifts by bringing your thighs out to your arms in a similar rotation (not as major as a sumo but same thing) to bring your glutes into your conventional. Watching Omar's recent video of his deadlifts shows this clearly, his knees are almost touching his arms these days.

Old Omar technique:

Sumo can be a good assistance movement since (for most people) their back is more upright. For people with short torsos/long legs/short arms, you have to pull sumo, because they set up for a conventional DL with their shoulders lower than their hips.

Wow this is helpful AS FUCC. Can't believe I wasn't already doing this. I'd always focus on pushing down into the ground with my quads only. Not utilizing leaning back into my glutes/hammies. Trying this as soon as my damn adductor tear is healthy again 😅

@Silent Mike Could you do a video on bracing with a belt in the deadlift? I pull conventional and can't figure it out
