So, in this video, Dr. Hansa ji Yogendra speaks about the pros and cons of going gluten-free

Gluten is a type of protein found in grains such as wheat, barley, rye, and triticale. It is composed of two main proteins: glutenin and gliadin. Gluten is responsible for the elastic and chewy texture in many baked goods, as it gives dough its ability to rise and retain its shape.

Gluten provides structure to foods and helps them maintain their shape and texture. It is widely used in the food industry as a binding agent, thickener, and stabilizer. Common foods that typically contain gluten include bread, pasta, cereal, baked goods, and many processed foods.

However there are a few health conditions where Gluten must be avoid

People opt for a gluten-free diet for various reasons. Here are some of the main reasons why individuals choose to follow a gluten-free lifestyle:

· Celiac disease - People with celiac disease must strictly avoid gluten to prevent digestive symptoms, nutrient deficiencies, and long-term complications.

· Non-celiac gluten sensitivity - some individuals experience symptoms similar to those of celiac disease when consuming gluten, but they do not have the characteristic intestinal damage seen in celiac disease. This condition is known as non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and people with this condition find relief from symptoms by following a gluten-free diet.

· Wheat allergy: Wheat allergy is an immune reaction to specific proteins found in wheat. In this case, avoiding gluten is necessary to prevent allergic reactions, which can range from mild symptoms to severe allergic responses.

· Personal preference or perceived health benefits: Some people choose a gluten-free diet as a personal preference or because they believe it may offer health benefits, such as weight loss or improved digestion

What are the cons of Gluten free diet?

While a gluten-free diet can be necessary and beneficial for individuals with specific health conditions, there are some potential cons or challenges associated with going gluten-free. These include:

· Nutritional deficiencies:
· Limited food choices:
· Cost:
· Social limitations:

So should you try a Gluten free diet? We would recommend try going gluten-free for a few weeks and seeing how you feel before you decide to go ahead with it

Wonderful video. Some more things that need to be added :

People who need to AVOID gluten COMPLETELY are :

Those with celiac disease
Those with gluten intolerance
Those with a leaky gut
Those with any autoimmune conditions. Hashimotos and Graves ( hypo and hyperthyroidism patients).

If you don't have any of the above, you can eat gluten. But even then, it should be in moderation as it can lead to above diseases in future.

I will NEVER understand why anyone that is not coeliac or gluten intolerant would choose to go gluten free. That's just wrong.
