Pamela Reif's Most POINTLESS Video Yet?!

I've expressed my concerns surrounding Pamela's workouts in the past, but today a particularly interesting workout has presented itself to me...

*Disclaimer: Unfortunately, the YouTube algorithm thrives on titles and thumbnails that could be perceived as clickbait. Although I find this particularly distasteful, as a means of reaching a new audience or encouraging my current audience to invest their time into my videos, I must work with the algorithm rather than against it. Statistics have highlighted just how effective aligning titles with the algorithm is and although this can be frustrating for many (myself included), I will always ensure that my titles:

1. Never promote false promises or unrealistic expectations.
2. Will more often than not ask a question.
3. Are worded in a manner that although might be perceived a certain way, are still open to interpretation.

Appealing to more potential viewers gives me the opportunity to further the spread of what I believe to be useful information surrounding the topic in question, in addition to a positive message which often surrounds mental health, with the goal of helping as many people as possible.

It should also be noted that the majority of my videos are based on audience suggestions. ~90% of my audience are women, therefore, the majority of videos are created to appeal to my dominant audience.

It must also be noted that although goals often vary amongst individuals, a lot of my opinions on movements are within the context of building muscle (hypertrophy) and therefore, should be considered with that in mind.

Thank you for giving me your time.*

I feel like these workouts are made/marketed for girls/women that don't want to get "bulky." Which is really distasteful because it continually feeds the misconception that doing certain exercising will suddenly change your body.

People like Pamela frustrate the hell out of me as a PT. As someone who I assume is educated in fitness she continues to spew out useless, click bait content that continues to add to the misconception that you can get quick results with minimal effort. Makes my/every other PTs jobs 10 times harder trying to manage people’s expectations and re-educate them on how much effort and time it takes to actually achieve their goals.

They are ALL pointless Harry!
She goes to the gym, so I don’t understand WHY she doesn’t show THAT content.

I use Pamela Reif workout videos exclusively for my workouts. For whatever reason, this was the only way I managed to keep at it for more than a month. Since using her videos I have been going strong and steady since July 2020. Having nearly reached the 3rd year mark, yes limitations have been seen. My ass looks amazing and continues to get better even though I no longer follow the videos, I still put them on because of the mindset involved.
Without her videos, I still likely would not have kept at it for more than 2 months.

Main thing I have found is to quick check through her videos, and only save the ones that have any hope of further progression. The issue is they are all made to be enjoyed rather than effective. works great once you find the ones that work for you

I feel like Pamela uses her good gentics and physique achieved through the gym to influence women with less fitness knowledge to buy into her 10 min low effort workouts and I'm not here for it

My core workout routine:
1) heavy deadlifts
2) heavy front squats
3) landmine rows
4) chinups (only can do 2 tho lol)
5) weighted pushups
It's funny how I barely train abs at all but have a sixpack because I'm lifting heavy weights whereas people waste so much time doing these little Pamela workouts 😩 of course my routine is not perfect but it apparently works

I really appreciate how you talk about how workouts like these could actually benefit some people in certain cases, like those new to working out or have some sort of mobility restrictions. I really like this positive and realistic approach to videos/workouts that you personally don't agree with based on your specific goals. And overall I really like how you explain everything and make suggestions for improvement. It's really encouraging for people who are new to working out. So thank you!

Standing ab workouts have confused me for as long as I’ve thought about exercising - I train abs almost entirely as a byproduct of other training but always either lying down or upside down

I actually love Pam’s workouts! Her core is SO strong. Her workouts are HARD. I have her app and follow her hard core workout series, which consists of 4-5 videos totaling around 1 hr workouts per workout day. She has a lot of variety and I love that she goes with the song beats. I’ve curated playlists of my own for each day and it works for me 🙃. Also not a beginner and previous gym rat. My exercise style has just changed to more HIIT/Pilates

The thing is that when I look at videos from actually professional PTs the exercises are the same. I am not an expert, but she does what others do 💁

Videos Notes:

Always informative and presented well, nothing too juicy to add.

Pamela Reif was the first YouTuber who got me into resistance training a couple of years ago during lockdown - I realised I liked picking up weights and started going to the gym and the rest is history. I appreciate her for that but I think at the time I thought I could do her videos and get a physique like hers when I know now that isn’t the case. Also I think she just pumps out the same videos over and over again

Stefanie Millinger has like a 20 pack and is 100lbs pure muscles. Yet her ab videos are mostly static positions without movement or something like flutter kicks, which should work the hip flexor instead of the abs. Maybe you cpuld check her out. She's not the type for easy cute looking workouts but has extra mean ones for advanced people.

'Use the code forehead' 😂😂 I never get tired of your oh-so-British self-deprecation. Makes me miss the UK so much more.

I don't think she makes these fitness videos to make people look like her. She inspires people to move despite their busy lifestyles and not to look like an athlete. And she makes it accessible to everyone without fancy equipment or whatever. She inspires me to workout despite my physical limitations who would just rather stay in bed.

Really like your considering what useful effects a workout might have - it's a really nice addition to the main evaluation of hypertrophy and strength effects. We get your expertise plus a bit of lateral thinking and that's great to see. Thanks!

I really enjoy Pam s cardio exercises that are kinda dancey but not too much. I do think that a large amount of her following is due to the fact that she is strikingly gorgeous. People watching do need to remember that her ENTIRE life is centered around fitness and looking a certain way. She has no children. It is beyond unrealistic for like 90 or more percent of women to achieve her body type. Her clothes have gotten progressively skimpier if you go back to her earlier videos. I honestly think she is a little too skinny, but to each their own. At the end of the day yes i believe she has amazing genetics and all hours of the days and night to dedicate to her appearance and vulnerable people will get sucked in thinking they can look like her or close to her.
