Well said, John! It's refreshing to hear an Elon Musk supporter finally address the elephant in the room. Your courage and honesty are commendable.

At this point it also feels like tesla is one of the last truly innovative American companies building its products in America. Also a good reason to buy a Tesla.

I'm a Tesla owner. I disagree with Musk's political involvement but agree with many of his goals for humanity. We need to be careful to separate someone's political leanings from their job | business. I run a business myself and I work with people who I politically disagree with but I find them to be good people and they do good work.

I’ve made the same argument to a number of people. Another point I’ve brought up is that excellence should be rewarded. We should patronize the best in technology. That will encourage innovation and raise industry standards.

I just remind myself that Tesla is 120, 000 people that are NOT Elon.

Thank you for making this video. We bought into Tesla from the very beginning with the Roadster. When we received our Cybertruck things were changing quickly. Now I can't watch anything with him in it. I was hoping he would be the new Carl Sagan, Rod Sterling, or Gene Roddenberry instead of a Citizen Kane character or Darth Vader.😢

Engineering Student from Berlin Germany here. I love the innovative spirit of Tesla and would love to work at Giga Berlin. But the political stance he has taken is highly unpopular among all my student friends. Trump in general is very unpopular in Germany. So I have more and more arguments why buying a tesla doesn’t necessarily mean supporting Trumps ideologies.
Great job Dr. At addressing this. We need a more balanced critical discussion and not hype everything Elon does.

I just read ALL the comments and I must say that 98% were so heartfelt and kind of sad because so many of us have looked to Elon for navigating the future. I hope he can step back and reset.

I am not selling my TSLA any time soon. I am not a fanboy. Despite my relatives disagreeing. I like the CEO and am not advocating his dismissal by the board. That said, i vehemently disagree with Elon’s politics. They are not only wrong but misguided and will be horrible if implemented. His support by using millions of dollars and probably illegally spent is just gas on the fire. He is setting himself up for unnecessary legal troubles. As far as I am concerned if he does end up in court and is convicted, I will be buying the dip. Even when he can no longer be CEO. This company is bringing to the world what has been suppressed for decades. I want to be a part of it.

been said before but will repeat it here.. “You can not reason someone out of an opinion they did not reason themselves in to”.. Jonathan Swift from an essay in the 1700’s

I am a black, male, democrat that participated in anti-apartheid events back in the day. I own Tesla stock and drive a Tesla. I agree with about 0% of his politics but sometimes “ genius lives in a tortured soul”. Until someone does it better than Tesla, I am stuck in that ecosystem. I have to put the safety and security of my family above the “wacky politics” of a CEO.

People are complicated. I don't expect to agree with anyone on everything. But if you just tell someone they're terrible and reject them, their response is to reject you back. But if you say "Hey, this - yes, awesome, good job, do more of this. But this other thing you do - no, not cool, stoppit." then they're more likely to listen to you.

Hi Dr. know it all! I never missed any of your videos because you present them with a lot of knowledge and reasoning behind them. I own a Tesla not because I am a fan of Elon but because of many good things about them. Made in America, good for environment, cheaper to operate, less maintenance, easy to charge at home, auto pilot assistance and yes, they are cheaper to buy now. I don’t like Elon’s involvement in politics but I admire his many accomplishments. He is a genius but most geniuses have some weird things about them and we should expect that.

One upside to Elon's publicity is that he's appealing to half the country that typically has been very anti-EV and getting more of them on board. The other half of the country that Elon is alienating might get an EV from a different company, but they'll still get an EV and that's Elon's main goal. And since the more EVs there are in total, the better that is for Tesla owners as there becomes more infrastructure (charging stations, apartment/condo buildings putting outlets in the car park, etc), and makes the EV market bigger, and Tesla can still make money in energy off them. Plus they'll all probably be licencing FSD form Tesla inthe future as well. So strategically it actually makes a lot of sense what Elon is doing. I believe studies have been done that have found that more people have bought a Tesla because of Elon than refused to buy a Tesla because of him.

You’re brave to address the elephant! I’m in the UK, and have owned a Model 3 for 5 years. I love it, and have caused two friends to buy after experiencing mine. But now everyone I know brings up Musk’s behaviour - especially after he encouraged riots in the UK. Sales here must be hit hard, just as cheaper alternatives arrive in quantity.

I was a Tesla and Elon fan. I don't know what happened to him, but he has lost it by promoting lies. I now only use one slogan from Elon: The best part is no part. The best car is no car. It is a bike.

I use autopilot regularly, and this data is likely very confounded. I and many other people I know will turn off autopilot whenever they're in a complex situation. So the fact that we're seeing less accidents on autopilot could largely be due to the fact that people only use it in safer / simpler situations.

I agree with what you say. I’m more worried about the tesla stocks but I think you address the message in a measured and balanced way.

I personally know several people who were once potential Tesla owners will no longer consider a Tesla. This because of Elon's support of Trump.

*You read my post yesterday, didn't you? It was about why you should buy a Tesla, even if you don't like Elon. I posted it on a site where someone said they know 10 friends who aren’t buying Tesla because of something Elon said or did. I simply pointed out how stupid that is. Buying anything other than a Tesla is like playing Russian Roulette with their lives. I also mentioned that any sane person would want the best product, and Tesla makes the best product in the world—by a mile! It's either you read my post, or we think alike.*
