If you want a good in-depth look at the Far East I'd suggest the Kings and Generals' Mongol Invasion series. K&G also has a video called Roman-Chinese Relations and Contacts if you want to give that a look as well or their Battle of Talas video which illustrates the conflicts between the Islamic Caliphates and Chinese Dynasties 😉

"Iran" would actually be the more correct term even at this period since the Sassanians themselves called their empire Iranshahr. "Iran" itself as a word presumably came from ancient "Aryana", "land of the aryans". "Persia" has always been an exonym name for "Iran". Though there is really no problem using them interchangeably.

the arabs and tang dinasty did actually fight in the battle of talas, you can react to that since kings and generals and HistoryMarche did make a video about it. It is obvious who won that fight but im not gonna spoil it😂

Fun fact: The Sassanids promised to rebuild the Jewish temple when they were stronger than the Bizantines but it didn't last.

Tabaristan in the north of Iran never fell during the Arab and Mongol invasions and did not fall until the Safavid rule (an Iranian government) and remained Zoroastrian.
Some examples of those governments are:

24:20 As noted in the video and by yourself, Christianity, specifically Nestorian Christianity or otherwise known as the Church of the East, was a major religion in the Sassanid Empire, it was the second largest religion within the Sassanid Empire and there are examples of nobility converting to the religion. Whether a Sassanid monarch or prince converted though? Certainly not impossible of course but is questionable, Zoroastrianism was closely intertwined with the state ideology of the Sassanid Empire. That said, Nestorian missionaries did make it as far as China around the same time so if Peroz was a Christian I imagine it could have some relation to these missionaries.

Interesting history the Church of the East has in its own right, which seems to have escaped most Western historiography. Around this period it was a prominent religion and by the time of 823 AD the Nestorian Patriarch Timothy I of Seleucia-Ctesiphon resided over 19 Metropolitans and 85 Bishops, making up about a quarter of the Christian world and dwarfing everything west of Constantinople. And it must be said, the Muslims are surely hugely indebted to the Nestorian scholars who preserved ancient classics and had important centers of learning at Nisibis, Gondishapur, Merv, etc, greatly assisting the Muslims in their own intellectual and cultural development.

This was nowhere near the first time the Middle East had interactions with a Chinese empire. One of the first major interactions is detailed in another Kings and Generals video, “The War of The Heavenly Horses”. It’s pretty hilarious, casually sending an army across a desert who then fails due to improper logistics, then just doing it again with triple the force. It’s like Russia sending in 200k, failing, then trying to draft 600k and then actually succeeding.

The Romans did not have the upper hand
Take a look at the number of emperors killed in the war with Iran
The number of Iran's victories has been more
Even Iran was taking the capital of Eastern Rome
But the Christians in Iran revolted and the Roman Church became active against Iran and said that this is a religious war, and in the end, with the betrayal of the Armenians on the Roman side, Rome was able to come to Iran.

And a whole other story that is not here

But the reason for Iran's defeat from the Arabs is the Iranian war during the time of Khosrow Parvez and after he was killed
The civil war of the aristocracy and the proximity of the capital to Arab lands
It is not bad to read about the crimes of Arabs in Iran
From Tabari's history or other books

Have you heard of “Silk Road”? Persia and China had long term relationship (around 2000 years) because of it. One of Pirooz sisters was married to the Chinese Emperor. Pirooz was a young teenager when he made it to the Chinese court…China and Iran all through their long history have never been in war…they always have had cultural exchange (music, dance, arts, even fashion…) and great respect for each other. Pirooz family chose “Li” as their family name. Chinese are great with keeping records since ancient time. You find the story of Pirooz in Tang history books and records…Right here in USA if you go to any China town, you will see all the Chinese shopkeepers have plenty of respect for Persians and vice versa…

You know, if Yazdegerd had not sent the raids(or whoever was really in power) into the new territory of the caliphate, it is possible that Abu would have done nothing and let the Sassanids live in peace (I don't know about Abu successors tho).
It would be the poorest part of the empire yes, but it was better than losing everything.

Please use the tern Iran, instead of Persia (the incorrect name the Greeks called Iran). Iranians have always called their present homeland Iran (not Persia). Thanks
