Napoleon was gifted with many many brilliant subordinates, forged in the Revolutionary Wars. But Napoleon has overshadowed them all. Epic History TV has also produced a series that goes through all of Napoleon’s Marshals and ranks them according to merit. You must definitely watch that after this series!

The Duke of Wellington claimed that Napoleon’s presence on the battlefield was worth 40 000 men. Should say something about how his contemporaries viewed his prowess as a military leader.

Roland/Achilles of the Grande Armée, (Marshal Lannes) finest hour. A less able Marshal like Berthier would likely have been routed instead Lannes turned into Davout's mirror image. Only guess Napoleon's reaction to first hearing of Lannes' isolated Corps holding off an entire Russian army. "Get our arses to Friedland now!"

Some historians developed the thesis that Alexander have accepted the alliance with France in order to better prepare the revenge. In any case Alexander was eager to conquer and he will break this alliance when it becomes inconvenient for Russian interests (Poland, the continental system, the Balkans).

Here’s the shocker: There’s only one guy behind Epic History TV (excluding the narrator). Truly astounding work!

The narrator made a mistake. In fact Prussia lost 50 % of its pre-war territory at Tilsit. Absolutely brutal peace deal that finally made Talleyrand resign as Napoleon’s foreign minister. He had advocated a much less severe peace that would’ve preserved Prussian honor and dignity, fearing that such a harsh peace would cause bitter resentment that would come back to haunt France. In hindsight, he was most certainly correct, but Napoleon never showed any mercy to the defeated nations of Europe. The defeated had no rights to anything.

32:25, The problem with the peninsula war is that it was a war that napoleon could have avoided easily by just let spain and portugal with their government, but somehow his ambitions were beyond his purposes and wanted to rule those countries as he did in italy or the netherlands where the resistance of the population was little, something that didn't happen on the iberian peninsula and carried out a war of more than 7 years, but i prefer not to spoil the serie and watch it by your self 😅

Napoleon's marshalls and generals were a great bunch to say the least. There is a great series from EHTV about the marshalls, it's as interesting and entertaining as these videos :)
There aren't many things as amusing as arguing with other napoleonic geeks about who was the best marshall, it makes for great debating and furious arguments 😂😍

There have been more than a few theories on what Napoleon could have done to force the British to make peace. Some even state that the French Empire was doomed since the Battle of Trafalgar.
