How to do a toe touch. The toe touch is the well known jump in cheer leading. This jump is performed on the side lines, during performances and routines, and during cheers and sideline chants. Having flexibility through your hamstrings, lower back, and hips is helpful when trying to achieve the picture perfect toe touch. For the toe touch, we're going to start in this position and we're going to use counts to help us along the way. On one, we're going to hit a high V, on two we're going to hold, on three we're going to swing our arms into this position with our legs bent. On four, we're going to jump off the ground hitting a T motion bringing our legs up. On five, we're in this position, we're holding six. And on seven, we're going to stand. Let's do the toe touch to counts.

Ready? Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Great. When you're performing your jump, when you hit your T motion, make sure that you chest is up and when your feet leave the ground that your legs are straight, you're rolling your hips, and your toes are pointed. When you're bringing your feet back together, make sure that your feet are all the way together and that there's no space between your feet. And that's how to do a toe touch.

remember, move your legs, don’t apply all the pressure in your hips. KEEP YOUR CHEST UP!!

I am very flexible and have amazing balance and strength but my legs can't go up high enough... 😠

the comment section is so depressing. was i the only one impressed by her muscles?? why does a muscular girl bother you? it's obvious that she has those muscles to preform cheerleading well

*I'm a 8th grader and I'm going to highschool next year and I'm trying out for cheerleading everything seems like its going to be easy for me EXCEPT the toe touch, splits, and flips (excluding cartwheel)*

Today I had my cheer tryouts. We just learned a dance and on Wednesday we have to perform it. At the end we have to do some type of jump.

To get your jumps higher, on 3 bring down as hard as you can then POp up higher like an explosion

every cheer team has different ways to start their toe touch for example the Stingrays ( a competitive cheer team ) starts with a in a clap then their hands out in front of them then they bring it to a low rocket into the T. If your trying out for a cheer team I ( a Competitive cheerleader) would recommend a classic start which would look like hands in a clap on one while you squat with your knees together then bring you hands up by your temple on two almost like a touch down but with your hands together. After that you just bring your hands straight down into the same squatting position one thing to consider is absolutly NEVER cross your hands in the low rocket the people in the video tell you to but it is not good and it makes you toe touch lookk pretty messy when your are preforming.


A few tips are to streach every night Always warmup before doing a toe touch keep your chest up it will help you to bring yoi legs up higher and watch toe touch strenthing workouts it will help alot I recommend Anna Mcnulty. Good luck to every one ❤

It's been 10 years since this was posted, but in case someone still watches this, any tips for someone who is not flexible, cannot jump high, or anything that does not make you a physically healthy person 😭

There are long term solutions (?) like exercising, eating food, etc. Looking for short-terms. Or maybe inspirations like maybe someone of you are like the present me but can now do these jumps and stunts with training?

I think doing on a trampoline helps. I haven't tried it yet, but im pretty sure that the more height you get, the better technique you can have :D
