Subscapularis Muscle Mobilization - Rotator Cuff Treatment

Показать описание
Today’s video shows how to mobilize or massage the subscapularis muscle, which is one of our for rotator cuff muscles. The subscapularis muscle is located on the anterior or front side of the shoulder blade, so only a portion of the muscle can be palpated via the armpit region.
Irritation of the subscapularis muscle will tend to limit shoulder external rotation and produce pain on the posterior side of the shoulder and shoulder blade and the backside of the upper arm.
If you believe you have symptoms coming from this area, give the following technique a try. Make sure to be careful not to put pressure on the neurovascular structures that run through the armpit. This technique should not produce numbness or tingling, so if it does, you likely need to change your location of treatment.
1. Apply gentle pressure to the subscapularis region.
2. Ask your partner to internally rotate their shoulder and feel for a subscapularis contraction.
3. Once located, apply more firm pressure while your partner slowly externally rotates the shoulder.
4. Then, release pressure while they reset their arm to the starting position.
5. Repeat 10-15 times.
