Speaking of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Dostoevsky's own life reads like an over-the-top tale of tremendous suffering and woe, even though it is completely true. He was born and grew up in a hospital for the poor. His father was murdered (and patricide is a theme that occurs and reoccurs in Dostoevsky's writings). Dostoevsky was arrested and almost executed but got an 11th hour reprieve from the tsar, literally mere moments after he was already tied up, blindfolded, and facing the firing squad. Instead he was sent to Siberia for something like a decade of his life. He lost his first wife early. One of his children died as a toddler. If I recall, it was his favorite son named Alyosha who fell off a balcony as a toddler and died (and note in his stories how he often named the good characters Alyosha and the bad Fyodor). Dostoevsky struggled with alcoholism for much of his life. And Dostoevsky had epilepsy for his entire life. There's much more to say but this should be sufficient to show Dostoevsky didn't have an easy life to put it mildly. And I think that's in part why his novels and shorter stories are so great, because he wrote what he lived, he gave voice to his pains, a voice that, though dead, still speaks to so many struggling with pain and suffering and the most fundamental existential questions of life, the universe, God, everything.

I read all of Jordan’s recommendations, and they are all masterpieces. Truly enlightening. If you couldn’t think for yourself, you will after you read those books.

I don't always agree on much that Peterson's saying, but I got to say that of he gets young people into reading then that's already in itself a huge contribution to the future of humankind. Hats off!

He was too modest to add 12 rules for life. That book pretty much saved me.

I read modern man in search for a soul. It changed my life. I never knew someone could think like that and now thinking for myself as jung did has been monumental for my mental development and career. Thanks JBP.

When i first discovered jordan my then girlfriend(now wife) was pregnant we were living in a van subsiding off heroin and mcdonalds.... Anything by Orison Swett Marden is a good old fashioned, wholesome, kick in the pants. And I love everything he has ever written.

I feel like I need a more solid base before being able to understand where these books are coming from. Am I right or should I just go for it?
