Every time I watch a classic noir film my heart weeps for those that still think that Hollywood hasn't lost it's way. SOB!

Jean Peters and Max Showalter together again, they were husband and wife the same year in Niagara with Marilyn Monroe.

It's interesting to see Aaron Spelling (the producer who created Charlie's Angels, Dynasty, Beverley Hills 90210, etc., ) as a killer in this movie. I didn't know he started out as an actor... and he's actually very good in this film.

I recently watched 1941's "I Wake Up Screaming", and I appreciated how this remake gave more screentime to Vicki's character, and presented her in a more sympathetic manner (compared to the cold 'femme fetale' Vicki of the original picture). It was also nice how this version tried to insert some more foreshadowing for its main twists, although it did sometimes lessen the effect of the reveal (e.g. in the original, Cornell's face was never fully shown until he entered Jill's questioning room, such that the audience is just as shocked as she is upon realizing that he was Vicki's stalker).

The original also had significantly better cinematography, and the cast had more distinctiveness and variety among them... Cornell was played by a big guy that had this looming air of intimidation about him, and Christopher's friends had differing physical features that made it easier to remember who was who (compared to 14:29, where they just look like a trio of dark-haired skinny guys). Additionally, there was more romantic development between the two leads, with Christopher sharing several intimate facts about himself (e.g. he'd changed his last name from "Bottecelli" so that it'd be easier for people to spell, he likes to go swimming after a long day of work)... it's too bad these endearing details were cut out from this version!

Nonetheless, I found both films rather engaging and enjoyable overall. I personally prefer the original, but this remake holds up fairy well on its own.

The 1941 film featured better cinematography but I do appreciate that this version toned down the comedy. The casting also seems more down to earth and I thought Richard Boone as Cornell was impressive. I would say that this was a solid Noir but I Wake Up Screaming was more memorable.

1:16:33 is my favorite shot in the movie.

Fairly okay remake of l wake of “l wake up screaming” if only for Richard Boone being…Richard Boone. l almost thought for a moment that the film was playing when they were hiding in the movie theater was “l wake up screaming”
