Explanation

**1. Move the constant term to the right side of the equation:**

x² + 6x = -4

**2. Complete the square on the left side:**

* Take half of the coefficient of the x term (which is 6), square it (3² = 9), and add it to both sides of the equation.

x² + 6x + 9 = -4 + 9

**3. Factor the left side as a perfect square trinomial:**

(x + 3)² = 5

**4. Take the square root of both sides:**

x + 3 = ±√5

**5. Isolate x:**

x = -3 ±√5

**Therefore, the solutions to the quadratic equation are:**

* x = -3 + √5
* x = -3 - √5
