A year and a half ago, I quit my job with no backup plan and up the this point it has actually worked. It has not only worked, but I have been able to do a lot of things and am in a better spot financially than I was before quitting my job. This is my 200th video and in celebration of video number 200, I want to share 12 lessons I've learned since quitting my job with no backup plan.
1. If You Want Something In Life, You Have To Take It
In life nothing will ever be given to you, but if you want something, you have to take the initiative to take action and take it.
2. Whether You Think You Can or Can't, You’re Right
My dream was to make a living off of YouTube; however, the odds were highly stacked against me. Despite the odds, a year and a half later, I am making a comfortable living off the platform. If you want something in life, you have to first believe in yourself and then take action.
3. Luck Is When Preparation Meets Opportunity
When it comes to success, we often think some people are lucky while others aren't. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity and in order to have luck in life, you must prepare for it so when an opportunity comes, you're ready to seize it.
4. Sh*t Takes Time
If you want to achieve something in life, it is going to take time. You have to be patient and consistent over a long period of time until you see results.
5. Trust Is The World’s Most Valuable Commodity
When you boil it down, the product that everyone is selling is trust. The more trustworthy you are, the better off you will be in this world.
6. Operating With Integrity Is The Only Sustainable Long Term Plan
Since trust is the world's most valuable commodity, it is important to always operate with a high level of integrity because that is the only way to sustain something over a long period of time.
7. You Always Have A Boss
When I quit my job, I thought that I was free and I did not have a boss; however, I eventually realized that no matter what you do, you will always have a boss.
8. You Can Be Wrong 51% Of The Time And Still Be Successful
The way YouTube works is that you create a bunch of content and most videos will perform average or below average. A very small percentage, however, will reach a much larger audience and consist of the majority of your views. Even if you are wrong more than half the time, it does matter because these larger videos will make up for it.
9. Success Is Going From Failure To Failure Without Losing Your Enthusiasm
In order to be successful, you must be willing to fail over and over again. Eventually, however, if you keep pushing through the failures, you will see success.
10. Success Isn’t Owned, It’s Rented, And Rent Is Due Everyday
Success isn't permanent, but it is something that you are constantly working on. In order to be successful, you can't act as if you own it, but you have to keep at it every day.
11. It’s Okay To Not Have It All Figured Out
A year and a half after quitting my job there is that scary thought in the back of my mind of, "What's next?" The more I pursue my own path, the less worried I am about the future because it's okay to not have it all figured out. As long as you give it your best in the present, your future will probably turn out okay.
12. Hater Gonna Hate…Let Them Give You Strength
When you pursue some in life that you want, there are going to be some people that try to put you down. It is important to not listen to these people and instead let them give you the strength to keep going.
