I think the prequels are more appreciated now because at their heart the basic story was still very good, some dubious side characters, dialogue and directing/acting were the real problems and are why some people will never like them, but with time people have stepped back and seen what was good about them, while still generally acknowledging their flaws.

The sequel trilogy will never get that as their stories aren't great, I mean the best of the 3 is a poor remake of A New Hope, with very poorly thought out character progression. There's nothing good to latch onto in the first place.

I don't think the sequel trilogy will be better liked with the passage of time, because a large part of why the prequels are better liked than they used to be is that the sequels came along and made them look better by comparison. If Disney stops making Star Wars movies for a decade or two, then comes out with an even worse trilogy, then maybe the few who still care will give episodes 7-9 a bit more love.

If original trilogy was made for 12 Year old, then the prequels were made for 6 Year olds.

I love the prequels, but I think too much was crammed into the prequels. Each film needed to be about half an hour longer. Especially ep 2 and 3

Attack of the clones was a bit weird but the prequels were gold you bastards.

The Disney movies won't be loved as time goes on, likely fading even more, because they lack the heart and imagination that Lucas attempted with the prequels.
Lucas gave more credit to his audience, including their moral compass and intelligence than Disney has.
Lucas wanted to try new things, clumisly executing grand ideas, adding further importance to the stories he'd already made, whilst Disney wanted to make money off an algorithm using nostalgia whilst also making what had come before less important so they could replace it with their own media properties.

I would say a couple of things.

1. The tone and humor of the originals were more mature than the prequels, so to say they targeted the same age audience may have been the intention, but it was not executed that way.

2. You can't expect to release the next volume of works years later, and expect to start fresh with a new audience. You have to assume that the majority of your audience are old fans, therefore are more mature. I can say this for a fact because 10 to 12 year olds still need their parents to take them to the movies.

3. The mixed reviews from different age groups and bad reception of Jar Jar was due to the drastic difference in his comedy content and the mature nature of the story. Trade negotiations, politics and war are not tween topics. Literally in the background of that drama was a goofy lizard juggling and stepping in poop. Imagine watching The Matrix but with the three stooges in the background. Annoying right? Yes, Disney's Goofy was ridiculous, but the characters around him were funny too, so the comparison was not so stark and he didn't stand out.

In the first Star Wars his NAME was actually "Darth." And he was NOT Luke's father.

Bugs Bunny cartoons are written for adults and children enjoy them just the same. "Writing for 12 year olds" is just a lame excuse for poor filmmaking. God knows how Lucas so brilliantly directed the original Episode IV. He never got close to that brilliance again.

Huh. So the video discusses George Lucas’ comments addressing people’s misunderstanding of the film, and then we’re going to continue to misunderstand the film? It’s a brilliant movie.
A number of comments here are pointing to a dislike of the trade dispute in the senate, when the same kind of world building is done in ANH when they discuss the dissolution of the senate..? Like what’s the deal? The setting for it is even more interesting here within the huge senate chamber and all these various aliens gathered. The story has mature themes and immature themes; the 6 films are very cohesive.

The overall plot across the 3 is fairly good. And they have some good moments.

But sadly they’re poor.

Rogue one might be the equal best Star Wars film.

Okay just curious you promised a link but it's not at the end of the video it's not in the description unless I'm missing it?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: saying that something is for children is not an excuse for poor writing and shoddy characters. The prequels are simply bad films. Period. A bad film is a bad film. It doesn’t matter if it’s a drama or comedy, animated or live action, adult or cild oriented. Bad is bad. Period.

I think the prequels were good. Not like the OT though. To say the prequels were garbage is a bit to much 😅

The prequels were awful movies made by professional filmmakers. The sequels were awful movies made by a bunch of hacks.

No. The sequels will not be liked better. The prequels had a TERRIBLE script, but it also had AMAZING ideas. They are the perfect case study of "great idea, horrible execution". The sequels are flooded with horrendous, non-sense writng "Somehow Palpatine returned." "I am the spy." "Rey Skywalker." and the list goes on and on and on...

I try to watch these movies (1, 2, 3) every few years hoping I'd just got it wrong, and I was being too harsh. They get worse every time. Absolute garbage.

Nah. The prequel trilogy is still absolute GARBAGE.

No, the sequels will never be accepted lol. They're trash! It doesn't matter who the target audience was, they failed!
