George Lucas Didn’t Tell Hayden Christensen About This!

We can all probably agree that the addition to Hayden Christenses’s Anakin Skywalker in Return of the Jedi was a good idea! But did you know that George Lucas didn’t even let Hayden know he was adding his Force ghost to the film? Well, you see, George made Hayden film that particular scene during the shooting of Revenge of the Sith. However, he never told Hayden what the scene was about or how to act, he basically just told him to stand there and smile! Later on when Hayden saw he was added into the special addition, he stated that George never told him what that scene was for and if he knew, he would have acted differently! I don’t know why George kept this a secret from Hayden but you know, the maker has his mysterious ways but let me know what you think of this in the comments and May the Force be with you!

It's really funny to imagine him just standing there like "what the heck am I doing"

I’d say he wanted it to be super natural, not acted out or scripted. I mean Hayden even said he would’ve acted “completely different”.

I actually thought that scene was one of Hayden’s most genuine performances out of his role in Star Wars. I always interpreted the scene as: Anakin fades in looking towards the floor due to the shame of Vader still lingering on him. However, after seeing his kids together and happy he lifts his chin as though he’s incredibly proud. Just my interpretation from how the story was setup, but knowing that Hayden had no idea what scene he was doing that for is kind of wild.

The moment looks natural af too.

He looks as if he's looking at himself manifest like
"I'm me, and I'm home"

I mean the way hayden acted in the edit, fits in line with anakins personality, a kind hearted Jedi who is happy to return to the light side

"I need you to pose for - *really loud drill noises for 2 minutes while George is explaining what he wants Hayden to do* and then you stand there and smile"

Can you imagine a massive Star Wars fan like Hayden realizing "Oh shit, im IN the Original Trilogy now???"

I guess George liked Haydens work so much he decided to give him a blessing

The reaction he gave was genuine and forgiving, showing that he was a renewed force ghost

I like the way he looks at himself as a ghost before head up and smile

Most likely it was an idea that was talked about but not yet finalized. So they took advantage of Hayden's filming schedule to make sure they had the footage.

That's George in a nutshell. Sometimes he's a genius other times it's 'God damnit George...'

It was a great way to show Hayden that George appreciated him

God damn it George. Hayden is actually a good actor, I believe he could pull off "weary ghost filled with pride and joy that his son released him from suffering and saved the galaxy" without too much trouble. Hell, just tell him he's proud of his Padawan

George is infamous from keeping his edits a secret from everyone. David Prowse had no idea he would be dubbed over as Darth until he saw it in the theatre (he was pretty pissed)

It would have been cool if they had him film just one line to add in. After like sees them all and smiles, Anakin smiles back and says “thank you son”

Hayden:"It's unfair. How can you put me in the scene and not pay me royalties?"
