In this video, Rhonda discusses:

• Why she tries to avoid plastics as much as possible
• Why she no longer uses Ziploc bags for storing food — and the brand she uses instead
• Why you should be extra cautious about eating canned foods (especially if they go into the can hot)
• The reusable water bottle brand she recommends for limiting plastic exposure
• Whether or not she drinks from cans (which are lined with plastic)

I do not recall the name but I saw a study that measure where microplastics came from in tissue samples. Plastic/Silicone cutting boards were about 5x worse than all other sources. I bought a natural solid wood one that I seal with coconut oil. Do not buy the bamboo or butcher block type ones as they contain adhesive. Last, don't stress too much life is short. 🤗

Plastic exposure is not a battle that we can fight as individuals. We need to fight it with a mass movement for better regulations and industrial reforms.

I always wondered if our generation was exposed to something harmful that we thought was harmless like how previous generations were exposed to cigarette smoke, PCBs, and DDTs and thought they were safe.

Ours is plastic.

In terms of level of micro plastics, the dose from each tea bag would overcome all the compostic bags in a year. The 2nd worst micro plastic levels are in fast food - most likely due to all ingredients in supply chain being in contact with plastics all the way to the fast food franchise location

I have glass containers for food, in the fridge. Frozen fruit comes in carton here. Cans are BPA free for nearly a decade here.

Only thing I'm having difficulties with is finding a reverse osmosis device that is free of plastic. Water quality is amazing here otherwise so aside from the calcium oxide taste, I guess it's fine.

Bar soap for shampoo, dishwashing, showers, etc. is available from many companies. It’s also cheaper since you don’t pay for the water in the plastic container.

What are your thoughts on home-canned foods? The glass is safe, I’m a bit concerned about the lids

Number one source of microplastics is clothes. All the nylon fibbers that fall and you end up breathing or swallowing(via sticking on your saliva while breathing).

If you haven’t switched to bar shampoo yet, you need to. Ethique is a fabulous brand. Liquid shampoos are a waste of space and so diluted with less actives. Also, toothpaste and deodorant both come in glass now. Extremely easy switch.

Is it true that Chlorella can bind to microplastics in the gut?

Rhonda, how can I reduce microplastics if I'm in a country where tap water is undrinkable (Mexico)? Everyone gets their water from bottles, and big plastic water barrels.

Are dried beans as healthy as canned beans, if you need to reconstitute?

Rhonda mentioned the Yeti mug in this video as having a plasic-lining free interior. Don't stainless steel interior mugs and so on generally have plastic-free interiors?

I store a batch of cooked stews in my freezer using silicone bags. I presume they are safer than plastic ?
