I would definetly recommend reading Das Kapital. Forget the communism part, this book opens a new viewpoint on capitalism.
K.Marx points out the inevitable failure of capitalism, such as bailouts and recessions, which we consider the norm, but it shouldn't be that way. The endless chasing of "growth" and profits is not sustainable.

Bravo Karl Marx.

"The equality of the capitalist and the laborer is the same as the equality of two fighters, when the hands of one are bound, while a gun is put into the hands of the other, and equal conditions are strictly observed for both in the fight." - Leo Tolstoy

Das Capital's arguments are far more subtle and technical than what this guy says, but then again Marx did write the Communist Manifesto which was an oversimplified mess...

The root word of capitalism, capital: 1d : advantage, gain make capital of the situation (Source: Merriam-Webster). | Proverbs 22:7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Yeah, the workers would never be able to unionize, pool their own resources, buy their own means of production, then run a company democratically. wade-a-minute....

And, how well do his ideas work in the real world?

"Capital is dead labour, that, vampire-like, only lives by sucking living labour, and lives the more, the more labour it sucks." -Karl Marx
--> A zero sum analysis that completely ignores the actual creation of new value.

"Capital is the production of products designed not for consumption, but for further production."-Jeffrey Tucker
--> Actually acknowledges the production of new value and how that process becomes easier by saving a little to make things that facilitate better production in the future.

This is why all Marxist states have failed miserably by all metrics. They don't even know how to define capital. They build all their critiques and criticisms on a fallacious zero-sum ideas about why people even produce things in the first place. This idea needs to die already.

This does a poor job at explaining the result of Marxism.

But notice 1:25: The person who physically makes the shoes doesn't get to keep the full sale price of the shoes because that sale price has to cover multiple people and activities. The most crucial among those activities is finding the buyer, convincing them of the value of the item, and collecting the money.

If you and your fellow workers own the means of production, you don't have a business; you have a production line. If you want a business, you have to go find customers. It's the person who acquires customers who has the leverage in the business.

Too bad his economic strategy doesn't work in practice, while Capitalism has grown to make the greatest countries and their economies soar.
