If one can afford medigap, you should go that way. The only reason to go advantage, is you never have to use it. But it’s unlikely to stay that way as you age. IMO

This is why I tell customers to always check on their plans at least once a year.

Medicaid pays our Medicare Part B premiums which means our Part B premiums are NOT deducted from our monthly Social Security Disability checks. My husband and I are eligible for one of the four Medicare Savings Program, SLMB (Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary), which pays our Part B premiums only. Those SSD checks are our only income.

Retirement is very expensive if you need medical care, devices, etc. on a regular basis. We pay $150 (approx.) for basic Medicare, and another $145 for the advantage part. Plus, we have co-pays on everything. And, many prescription drugs are either not covered at all, or so expensive we can't get them.

I have seen those same commercials in my area about the premium reduction. Thanks for explaining how this works.

I get my medicare premium paid by the State of Arizona because I have their Medicaid plan.

How can I search for an advantage plan that STATES what my "give back or reduction" amount would be? All I can find is just the non-specific "yes" (there'd be a reduction), even from my current company that is providing it. They aren't saying whether it's different for 2025. Most companies don't address it at all. I went through this last year and it's infuriating.

A question for you. I still pay my Part B even though I live overseas and will only use Medicare if I get massively sick and need to return to the US. Unless that happens, a complete waste of money for decades. So the Part B buyback is perfect. But is there a way I can use it if I no longer have my US address? I could use a relatives but would that be okay? Any suggestions. Seems unfair to pay Part B with no benefit, and even more unfair if I'm blocked from getting a buy back plan. When I go on websites with a zip code field to enter to find buyback plans I realized my problem... no zip... unless I use a relative or friend's. BTW, I am still registered to vote in my home state.

I live in Pa! I was approved for the pay back for Medicare B, I received that back in my SS for 2 months, and then I was to pay Plan B myself. I didn't understand why they did that. Very Confused!

What if I'm being charged monthly for Medicare but I haven't used it in years?

Moved to my husband's insurance almost 5 years ago. Haven't used Medicaid/Medicare since...

You present very understandable information! My husband will be 65 in January and will retire and collect his SS and Medicare. I won’t be 65 until Sept. of the same year. I’m a stay at home wife. What do I do for health insurance for those 9 months until I can enroll?
