it 100 times easier to find a good paying job as a front end developer, it takes a genius to make a good game from ground up. modelling, texturing, coding, shaders, design, marketing, staying incredibly motivated at all times, etc...

It is true that game dev will give u a better understanding and better experience and yes more complex coding, but I don't find it relevant to compare between these two....and I think game dev, do have relation with software dev, u still have to store huge database of players for backup if u want to keep up with player saved progress...but game dev have to take care of that and the gameplay itself...so yes it is more complex...but like I said it is not practical to compare these two field

One of the major reason why more people consider other options than game dev, not just because the coding part for other software dev is less complex than game dev, but u are getting paid like three times more, while game dev the industry will punish, extend your working hours, even u have said it in your previous videos and paid quite low

Another reason is, if u are looking at different continents of country, perhaps Asia side, most of these countries doesn't have a good support game development and not much of these popular companies have developed their branch in most of these countries but they do offer for other software development job with a reasonable pay

In conclusion the game dev job is something anyone would want to do, but as long as the industry is punishing you to work your ass off being paid nuts, who wants to work?, Better paid at other software dev program, so ofc many will choose this path

To be honest, this video is really subjective. Everything you said in this video is also applied to web and mobile development. Also, you can not easily switch from game dev to other area easily. There is always learning curve in every field. I can understand you are a fan of game dev, but if you don’t have enough experience about other fields, stop talking about.

Honestly I don't see very many jobs for C# outside of web dev and game dev. Once you pick one (webdev or gamedev) you have to stick to it.
The problem is that everyone wants easy money from coding. It takes years just to become advanced in 1 language, let alone 4-5 that many jobs ask for these days (esp. webdev).
web dev requires HTML, CSS, +frameworks, at minimum; it's not just C#.

With that being said, the only reason I am sticking to gamedev because C# is the only language that I can understand SOLID and OOP concepts in.
If I started out in web dev, I don't think I would have any decent understanding of OOP

Game development is also a software development.

You clearly haven't spent much time in software dev. One of the many faulty things you've said, one has grabbed my attention; Game Development has higher salary? You can publish templates in gamedev and not in App Dev?

You haven't worked on enough Software projects, bro. Seeing your Software moving a Train beats Game Dev any day. I've worked on everything, so I have a much broader picture. Yeah, you are right, Game Dev is more interesting when compared with Web and App Dev. But beyond that narrow spectrum, there are way cooler Software Development endeavours out there.

Cool video, I agree with most of your points but there are quite a few multiplatform frameworks so you can develop one app that runs on mobile, web and desktop (flutter, compose...). Software is all about reusing code, it doesn't apply only to game Dev. Software developers can also make money just like indie Devs... It's probably a little bit easier too but in both cases you need to get good with marketing.

Are there really more freelance jobs for game developers then web developers? I always thought it's the opposite 🙂

I think game Dev is very different from other coding disciplines.

I like to make the comparison between MLB(web dev) and NBA(game dev). One is just as, if not more, financially stable - while the other comes with glitz and glamor

To be a successful game developer, you need to be creative! For me, it's the hardest thing ever to have, I believe some people are just naturally way better at it

I'm 20 year olds, have been web-dev for 1 year, currently want to try on game dev ( like dani i assume ). i have a question if i learn both web and game dev would it's help each others ? i saw pretty common between two at basic ( at least C# and OOP ) so does it's really improves mindset at both ? tks for reading this and sorry for my bad English .

Games are more complex than making apps? You clearly haven’t coded any apps. I’ve done both and I assure you app development can get way more complex

But you need very high end PC for game dev

Web dev is way more fun if you have a business mindset.

I agree to all these points except for the money and girls though, that didn't happen :(

Gamedev is not as hard like it used to be like in the 90's and 2000's, where in order to make a game, you had to create your own engine. Now with game engines like Unity and Unreal avariable for free, it has becomed ridiculously easy to make a game. I find web dev more challenging because if you want to create a web app, you have to know both the frontend and backend, which involves a lot of technologies.

Well gamedev is harder as it demands more skills than software development.

What do you recommend to do if my visual studio compiles the sorce code very slow? In my case it takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

I work on app/Web and software development as a UX UI designer, actually learning C# for very personal reasons and wanting to create experiences on my own. But you don't really know what are you talking about. An app is not a boring couple of buttons "it has clients, it has users and it has a reason to be as a product itself" it can be a very difficult one like a bank app with different kind of users and functions, APIs, connections and more. It ofc will be tested and iterated. It will be worked on agile groups with front, back end, infra, Qa, product etc. May the result be the same. On coding logic will be different yes but it doesn't mean that a software product does not require Ai for example, only if the product needs one. I thought that the video was serious about the topic but is just a vague list and all that stuff applies to software development. Plus if you work on good companies you can access to quality research and information and innovation.
