How To Fix PS5 Controller Won't Update [Updated 2024]

As someone else mentioned in the comments, As a first step try turning off Bluetooth, it will reset your console then update through the usb cable. That worked for me. So you can skip all the things the video tells you to try that anyone with basic testing skills would have already tried. If that doesn’t work there are other suggestions in comments.

Ok finally!! Just putting this here since it worked for me and there are not vid on it, just switch to USB on controller and turn off Bluetooth in general
Edit:u can turn Bluetooth back on in accessories/advanced settings
Hope this can save 1 persons time at least

Lol you should probably make sure your audio is working properly when uploading a video

If nothing works try this.
Grab the pin you get in every iphone box and reset your controller via the back in the small hole (press about 5/10sec)
Reconnect and reset ps5.

I can't even get to the home screen. My PS5 stays on the screen to update the controllers. From there I go in rounds between clicking ps5 button and update button.

Mine says update now or turn of controller. If I update it, after hitting 100% it just return to previous screen

Bro i cant thank you enough for posting this! I had bought a ps5 in 2022 and did not unbox it until 2024. The controller battery would not charge and also would not let me log onto the ps5. The message of low battery and needing to update kept popping up and locked me out of doing anything and the controller would just flat line and turn orange and do nothing even hours after hours of charging. I watched this video and updated the controller on my pc and its totally fixed now idk what i would have done if i did not see this. Tnx again!

Lol my console just became unplayable. It’s forcing me to update the controller but when I plug it in the option to update won’t highlight and the only other thing it’s letting me do is turn off the controller…. I only have one working controller

I had the same issue, but i found out that my problem was they type c cord. The one I had was not working properly. It would charge my controller but not sync with my ps5. So just make sure you using the official playstation type c cord and see if that fixes the problem.

Just change your communication method from Bluetooth to usb cable and it worked for me
